CHLOE VAN DYKE
Nelson Businesswoman and Entrepreneur
Meet talented, successful Nelsonian businesswoman Chloe van Dyke, BSc,
PGDipSci Neuroscience. Chloe, who grew up in Nelson and studied neuroscience
at university, has created CHIA, a nutrient-rich fruit drink made from hydrated
chia seeds.
Although Chloe had no prior business experience herself, she grew up in an
entrepreneurial family. Her parents developed New Zealand Nature Company,
an international mail-order business with a focus on sustainability and the
environment.
After Chloe graduated from university, she returned to Nelson to pursue her
interest in health. Coming from an athletic family, she had the idea of creating a
nutritional health drink to assist training and recovery. She saw a gap in the
market for such a product, started experimenting and came up with CHIA.
Within three years, CHIA has become an international brand.
Chloe’s achievements include:
• 2013 winner of the ANZ Flying Start Business Award
• 2014 winner of the Massey University Health Section of the NZ Food Awards
• 2015 scholarship recipient for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneurial Winning Woman Programme
• 2015 finalist for the Westpac Growth Grant
Chloe’s business is a local success story. She says Nelson was the right environment to grow her business.
Having the right environment coupled with plenty of determination proved to be all that Chloe needed for
her venture to gain momentum.
