We are extremely proud to share the just released graduation and completion
data from ODE and the amazing results for our district. For the third
consecutive year our data is showing positive growth for high school graduates
and fifth year completion. This is a transformational improvement in the 4 year
graduation rate- a jump from 67.5% in 2012 to 86% in 2015 (compared to the
state average of 73.8%).
The five year completion rate of 92.8% also represents a 9.7% increase since
2012 and is significantly greater than the state’s average of 81.6%.

Not Just Smarter Balanced…
-5th Graders Take a Science Multiple Choice Test (April)
-Our English Language Learners Take ELPA21 (English Language
Proficiency Assessment) 21 stands for the 21st century.
-We use an assessment called STAR (reading and math) for universal
screening to help us review our core, determine if interventions are
needed, and for progress monitoring our students.
-Teachers use formative and summative assessments related to
their curriculum (sometimes called interim assessments).

child be prepared for
the Smarter Balanced?
Practice skills at home including typing (if accessible) and
writing at home
Take the training and practice tests with your child at:

Talk to your child’s teacher about what your child is
learning in school that involves critical thinking and
problem-solving and how you can get involved at home
Take advantages of learning opportunities at home (e.g. do
things together and ask “why and how”)
Look for opportunities to enrich learning in the community

Training and Practice at School
All 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms will participate in
Training and Practice with example items in the weeks
before Spring Break
• Training Tests helps students learn about the tools available to
them on the test
• Practice Tests give students examples of what kinds of questions
they will encounter on the test
