Last year I started the Tower Talk message by sharing about Ash Wednesday. Well, I start this year with the same. On Wednesday, February 18th we observed Ash Wednesday. This was the beginning of the Lenten season. It was cold and snowing and reaching blizzard conditions. However, a few brave souls came out to repent, receive their ashes in preparation of the 40 day walk toward the cross. Though it was cold, we were able to feel God’s warm love among us. Last year, I was sharing the fact that we had experienced the Polar Vortex. Well this goes to show that when we think that things are bad, they can be worse. Last year certainly was not as severely cold as this year. As we have probably heard, February was the coldest and had the most sub zero degrees in history. Regardless of the cold, we must keep the warmth of God’s love in our hearts. We have heard of record falling snow (especially in Boston). We have heard of house tops collapsing, we have heard of car pile ups, and many bursted water pipes. But in the midst of it all, God’s love helps us to get throug the tough times as we lean on one another. Often we don’t reach out to one another until there is a calamity (especially with the weaher). God always has a way to help us to love one another in the best of times and the worst of times. This March we will observe NWPHA (National Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDs). We will be the host on Wednesday, March 4th. Also another number of events take place in March: I am listing them. Embrace one or all of them as we sojourn from winter to spring. We will reflect on the Seven Last Words of Jesus as we walk the mile and a half route through the Lyell-Otis Street neighborhood. This area of the city has been the scene of several homicides and the challenges of poverty pervade its streets. Won’t you come and walk with us in solidarity with those who pray for the Kingdom of God to come to their neighborhood. We will gather at Holy Apostles Church at 530 Lyell Ave. 14606 at 9:00am to begin the walk. If you plan to participate by bringing a group or if you would like to lead one of the prayer stops please contact: Rev. Denise Yarbrough 275-8422 or Rev. Alan Dailey 330-8744. Co-sponsored by Greater Rochester Community of Church /Faith in Action and the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester.
