Information and tips on creating a successful proposal for the Red Bull Studios x Little Simz Album Art Commission and Exhibition Activity: Open to: All UAL students Ideal for: Graphic | Fine Art | Sculpture | Photography | Animation | Moving Image/Film-related disciplines | Projections | Multimedia students Little Simz is a young, up-and-coming UK Hip Hop artist and will release her debut album this August. Red Bull Studios began working with Little Simz after she featured on their television series, Launched at Red Bull Studios, earlier this year. In keeping with Simz's home-grown attitude and alternative approach, she wants to host an exhibition to launch her album, working with 12 young visual artists from UAL who will each create bespoke artwork for one track on the album. This would ideally be a range of different artists across various mediums. The exhibition will take place at Red Bull Studios and there will be significant marketing campaign around the project and the album. Theme The theme will be Little Simz song that is given to you. We want to get an idea of your style of work and while you are not being asked to send a finished artwork in the proposal, we would like to see an idea of what you might make for the exhibition at Red Bull Studios - if you are selected by the Red Bull team and Little Simz and after you have been given the specific track by Little Simz on 2nd July. o For this it is advisable to research Little Simz and her music and consider this in the subject and aesthetics of your ideas. You will need to state why your idea is relevant to this theme in your application. Audience/ Context o Think about how the work will look exhibited at Red Bull Studios and how it may also look in reproductions to market the exhibition and the collaboration Budget: What will your idea cost? Remember you have £200 to make the work, if the work costs more to make you will have to make up the difference. If it costs less, the money left will be for you to keep Who: we welcome individual proposals and in some instances it might be advisable to collaborate. Important Dates: Deadline – 14th June Notification if successful – 29th June Meet Little Simz – 2nd July Exhibition of your work at Red Bull Studios – 1st – 6th August ____________________ Once you have a good idea of what you’d like to do, it’s important that you explain it clearly in your proposal: Information on writing your proposal Deadline for entries: 12 midnight on Sunday 14th June Submit your proposal via the online entry form at: http://www.suarts.org/creative Your Proposal Content: Remember that we will be reading about the project for the first time and have no idea what it’s about. Try and present it as simply and clearly as you can. We will be looking at lots of proposals so please be concise. A few detailed paragraphs should be sufficient to get your idea and relevant points across. Sell your idea to us: Tell us why this project would work well for this unique opportunity. It’s important that you tell us about the logistics of the project. For instance: o What materials would you use o Do you have any specific requirements – power/ sink access etc. o How would you deliver the project o How many people could engage at one time General info: Bringing the project/ art work to life with some sketches/images will aid your application. Incomplete or vague proposals will not be successful so ensure you have included the elements mentioned in this document & completed the entry form in full.
