Queensborough Community College Students

Please note all applications are being continuously updated. Please check with the scholarship
organization for the most up-to-date eligibility and application details upon applying. These are
scholarships currently available to apply for the Summer 2015 Study Abroad Session.

Amount Awarded: Average for summer is $3,000, up to $5,000; selected applicants may be
also considered for an additional Critical Need Language Award

Students traditionally underrepresented in education abroad
including:
Students with high financial need
Study in non-traditional countries
(those not in Western Europe,
Australia, New Zealand)
Diverse ethnic background
Students with disabilities
Community college students
Please Note:
 Plan to spend about 5-10 hours on the application
 Register for Gilman webinars – there are weekly application topics like “How to Apply”
and “Composing Successful Scholarship Essays.”
 Regarding transcripts – you need an official one from your current institution and
unofficial or official ones if you are a transfer student or from your high school (if you
are a freshman).

General Scholarships

Application Close: April 3, 2015 by 5 PM Mountain Time (no exceptions!)
Amount Awarded: $2000 (you will have one year from the date of the email notification to
provide confirmation of participation and other requested information in order to collect your
FGS scholarship check. After one year, the scholarship is forfeited.)

STA Travel Scholarship
 Majoring in Art - your major must be listed on your transcript
 Contact details of an academic reference, a professor (see website)
 Written confirmation to the Study Abroad office from the professor
Financial Need Scholarship (for PELL Grant recipients only)
 Financial award letter indicated receipt of PELL grant

STEM Scholarship
 Must be majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics – your major
must be listed on your transcript
 Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical
Engineering included
Ethnically Diverse Student Scholarship
 Must self-identify as an ethnic minority, not white, not of Hispanic origin
Veterans Scholarship
 Must be a US military veteran who has honorably served in one of the five military
branches
