Dear Students and Parents/Guardians, Your class has been chosen to participate in an online program called ALEKS this year. ALEKS is an online program designed to strengthen skills that a student may be weak in. Your experience will begin with an online assessment to determine where you should place in the Algebra program. Once you have taken the online assessment, ALEKS will design a program just for you to work through lessons where you have some weakness. You will begin the program in the Common Core Algebra 1 course in order to review key concepts that are extended to Algebra 2. Once you have reached an 80% on your percentage of skills learned pie, you will be moved to Algebra 2. After you finish the first assessment in Algebra 1, you will be required to complete 5 lessons a week in ALEKS in the Algebra 1 course. Once you have reached the 80% and are moved to Algebra 2 and have completed the initial Algebra 2 assessment, you will be responsible for 3 lessons a week. Progress will be checked every Monday morning before school starts, and a grade will be given based on weekly completion. Since this is an online program, computer access is a must. If computer access is an issue, Power Hour offered every Monday and Thursday from 3:50-4:50 would give you an opportunity to work at school. Also, I stay after on Wednesdays from 3:45-4:30, and you could stay then to work in the computer lab. Otherwise, you may have to go to the public library to complete your assignments. If you have any problems setting up ALEKS, you may stop by my room any morning before school (I am normally here by 7:45), during homeroom, or right after school (until around 3:45). I will not answer questions about logging in or where to go in the middle of instruction time. The website is aleks.com. There is a specific code that must be typed in when you go to login. You need to write down the code given to you in class. Code:_____________________________________________ Student UN:__________________________________ Please let me know if you have any questions.
