PRESIDENT’S
MESSAGE
By the time you read this 2014 will be
history and what a great year it’s been!
The Historical Society has grown with
memberships reaching an all-time high!
There were many firsts in 2014, such as the
Independence Day float, a new website and
a quarterly newsletter. Our committees
continue to amaze me with their hard work
and commitment to furthering the society’s
goals. Our interns bring us a young
perspective and enthusiasm for history.
This doesn’t mean that we have everything
covered. We are always looking for help in
increasing awareness of the history of
Cornwall, Cornwall on Hudson and
Mountainville to the local population,
personal knowledge is needed, though we
have many knowledgeable people active in
the society we need others to help. If you
have memories or stories about Cornwall
and the surrounding communities we
would love to hear them. Please take an
hour or two out of your busy schedule and
spend some time with us at one of our
many events such as our monthly general
membership meeting, Independence Day
celebration or River Fest. I promise you
will have a great time, meet new friends
and catch up with old ones. Once you
spend some time with us, you will find that
we are committed to preserving the history
of our home and we have a lot of fun doing
it!

The Cornwall Historical Society is in the process of enhancing the WW II
wall of honor by reaching out into the Cornwall community to honor all
our veterans. The CHS “Honor our Veterans wall is now up and
accepting applications. Each veteran serving receives a 6” x 2” plaque
bearing name, rank, branch of service and dates served. The cost of each
plaque is $25.00. In 2014 the CHS donated a portion of the proceeds to
the local veterans food pantry. All veteran’s applications are logged in
binders and on display in the museum.
The following veterans have been added to the wall:

WW II WALL
OF HONOR
Through the efforts of Lou
Boselli and his committee, a
great deal of research had been
done on the 684 names on the
Wall of Honor. The new
committee has finished with the
first phase of documenting all of
the names listed.
Betty Ziegler has given each
name his/her own page with
space for their pictures, military
service and civilian information.
So far the she and Jeanne
Maroney have filled 10 binders.
They have documented
approximately 80 veterans.
Jeanne Maroney has researched
at the Cornwall Library.
There are still over 600 veterans
without information. We still
have a long way to go.
If you know or are acquainted
with anyone listed on the Wall of
Honor please let us know.
Further, if you have any photos,
old or new or know anyone who
does please contact us.
Our goal is to honor all Veterans
from Cornwall, Cornwall on
Hudson and the surrounding
area for their service.
