WHICH STORY IS BEING TESTED?
• The stories in the reading basal will be covered in
order.
• The first week of school is Unit 1 story 1 and will
proceed from there.
• Pull Out the Home study-guide from the Milleville
Folder for the reading stories as your child progresses
through them and you will always know which is next.
• Check Mrs. Milleville’s Online Classroom.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD MY CHILD READ THIS STORY?

Research shows that repeated
reading of a text builds oral reading
fluency.
Start working on the test question
study guide at the beginning of the
week.
HOW CAN I HELP WITH VOCABULARY WORDS?
• Parents can help their child study vocabulary words by
using the words from the list in everyday speaking.
• Parents can ask their child the meaning of the words.
• Parents can give the meaning and ask what word they are
describing.
• Vocabulary words are in bold print in the text.
• Vocabulary words are listed on the study guides.
WHERE CAN I FIND THE TEST QUESTIONS TO STUDY?
• The test questions for each basal test can
be found in the Milleville Folder or on Mrs.
Milleville’s Online Classroom.
• These are the actual questions for the test
but instead of multiple choice they are
asked in an open ended fashion.
HOW CAN I HELP MY CHILD STUDY FOR THE TEST?
• Using the Milleville Study-guide folder, find the list of
test questions.
• Read the questions out loud together before rereading
the story.
• As answers for the questions arrive during the reading
write down the page numbers by the question.
• The night before the test have your child go back into
the story and find the answers.
HOW IMPORTANT IS THE WEEKLY READING BASAL
TEST?
The weekly basal test is 100 points each week.
The success of this test has a great impact on your child’s overall grade.
