Classroom News
Hello from Room 2205! I hope you all were able to enjoy the unseasonably warm weather this last weekend.
However, we know this warm weather will not last for long. Please send your child to school with appropriate winter gear so that we are able to enjoy outdoor recess whenever possible. Also, please remember that students should bring tennis shoes to change in rather than wearing their snow boots all day. Thanks!
Winter break starts
Wednesday December 23 rd . This will be the last bulletin before the New Year. Enjoy the upcoming break!
Curriculum Update
In Reader’s Workshop, over the next week, we will be making inferences, identifying the main idea and story elements: characters, plot, setting, etc.
In English, we will identify the story elements in fiction books and talk about how characters actions affect the sequence of events in a story. We will continue reading the issues of National Geographic Explorer.
In Writer’s Workshop, we will start our Book Recommendation
Unit. Our next unit will be a short unit on grammar. After break we will begin our special non-fiction writing unit on planets. This is always a favorite for third graders!
In 3 rd grade math, we will start unit 4 on multiplication and division word stories.
Now that we will we start to multiply it is very important that students know their multiplication facts. Over break, students need to begin to memorize the multiplication table/facts (0-12). You can help your child prepare for this work by practicing multiplication flash cards with them (triangles to be sent home soon). As a reminder, students are graded on a letter system where P= proficient, D= developing, and B=beginning.
Important Information
Pokémon cards should be
left at home per my previous email. As we approach the holidays and many children will be receiving exciting new gifts, it is important to talk to your child about leaving those treasured items at home. Thank you as always for your support.
