You will be given a task (an Outcome) to do
 Literature essay
 Comparative essay
 Oral presentation
 Analysis
 Monologue
 Etc.
Two questions are asked about the
Outcome:
1. Does this work satisfy
the requirements of the
Outcome?

What if the work fails to meet
the Outcome?

You are given the opportunity
to re-do the task.
However, you only get ONE
chance to re-do each Outcome.

There are two Outcomes for
both Unit 1 and Unit 2
If you fail ONE Outcome,
you do not pass the unit.
You must pass all four
Outcomes.
You need to pass all the Outcomes to
pass the Unit.
Unit 1 Outcomes:
Outcome 1 – Reading and creating texts:
• To produce analytical and creative responses to the text, The
Killer’s Tears
 To prepare a monologue from the perspective of a character
 To write a literature essay
Outcome 2 – Analysing and presenting argument:
• To analyse how argument and persuasive language can be used
to position audiences and create your own text intended to
position an audience
 Oral group current affairs analysis task
 Written analysis of a current affairs segment
 Listening task
You need to pass three units of
English/EAL to get your VCE.
Unit 2 Outcomes:
Outcome 1 – Reading and comparing texts:
• To compare the presentation of ideas, issues and themes in
two texts: Rabbit Proof Fence (film) and Stolen (play)
 Written comparative text analysis
Outcome 2 – Analysing and presenting argument:
• To identify and analyse how argument and persuasive
language are used in texts that attempt to influence an
audience and create a text which presents a point of view
 Written analysis of 2-3 articles on an issue
 To give an oral presentation to the class giving your point
of view on a current media issue
 Listening task
You’ll also sit an exam at the end of
each unit.
Holiday Homework…
 To stay informed of issues
in the Australian media by
reading the newspaper
and watching current
affairs programs on TV or
online
 Read The Killer’s Tears.
Complete the assignment
on the novel, which must
be handed in during your
first EAL lesson.
