ELIGIBILITY • Open to all scientists who are employed on permanent or contractual basis • Government Research Institutions; • Government Science, Technology and Innovation Agencies • Public and Private Higher Learning Institutions with accredited research programmes. * For expatriates, must have at least one permanent Malaysian co-researcher from the same institution and well-versed with the project. The employment contract must be valid during the period of the research Quantum, and Duration of Funding • Up to RM500,000.00 • Up to 30 months (extension is usually allowed for 6 months with panel’s recommendation, must apply at least 3 months before completion date) • Only 1 grant at any time. Approval from MOSTI is required for variation of more than 20% SELECTION CRITERIA 1) Scientific and technical merit: Scientifically sound, technically feasible with achievable milestones, and has potential for commercialisation. 2) Research competence: The team must have adequate knowledge and competency to carry out the research successfully 3) Innovativeness of the research. 4) High impact research: Clear and measureable expected output, outcome and impact in line with National Key Economic Areas / National Key Result Areas (NKEA/NKRA). RESEARCH PRIORITY AREAS BIODIVERSITY (sustainable utilisation and conservation) CYBERSECURITY (Information security and autonomous system) ENERGY SECURITY (Harnessing alternative resources and improving the efficient use of energy especially in the areas of renewable energy ) ENVIRONMENT AND CLIMATE CHANGE (Ecosystem management, protection and improvement to mitigate flood, drought & air pollution; biosurveillance for environmental protection; Eco-tourism) FOOD SECURITY (Improvement of food crops, livestock & animal feedstock; Exploitation of biodiversity for food/feed; Post harvest physiology & technology Production System and Precision Agriculture; Improvement of biosecurity, biosurveillance and Sanitary & Phytosanitary (SPS) measures for animal and plant genetic resources.) RESEARCH PRIORITY AREAS • MEDICAL AND HEALTHCARE (Diagnostic, prevention and treatment to enable the ability to mitigate the burden of lifestyle diseases; new and emerging diseases; Cancer; biosurveillance in medical and healthcare.) • PLANTATION CROPS AND COMMODITIES (increasing the productivity and utilization, focusing on Oil Palm, Timber, Rubber, Cocoa, Kenaf, Tobacco & Pepper) • TRANSPORT AND URBANISATION (alternative energy sources and energy efficiency vehicles for environmental friendly transport; Design and engineering in vehicle, infrastructure, systems and facilities; Efficient urban waste ma nagement (Reuse, recycle & reduce)) • WATER SECURITY (Sustainable sources and processing, treatment & distribution of water) ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA • Must be multi-disciplinary, covering the fields of science & technology and social science. • Must involve a minimum of three institutions, including academic, research and industry. • Open to researchers from Higher Learning Institutions (public and private), RIs (government and private) and Small and Medium Enterprises. • Competitive bidding process. QUANTUM OF FUNDING AND DURATION • Funding approval will be based on merit of every application • Total maximum allocation of RM4 Million. • Duration not exceeding 36 months (Additional 6 months is allowed for IP acquisition) SCOPE OF FUNDING • Pilot plant/ prototype – equipment and supporting infrastructure which is directly related to the pilot plant; • Acquisition of technology (foreign or local). • Pre-clinical testing/clinical testing/field trials/stress test/user acceptance test; • IP preparation and registration/copyright in Malaysia only (excluding maintenance); • Regulatory and standards compliance; • Minor modifications and repairs of existing equipment used in project • Raw materials/consumables directly related to the project can be included; and • Market testing and evaluation.
