History and Problems noticed in teacher trainings • It has been noticed that during the course of last 10 years for which the SSA has been operational several problems/flaws have been noticed regarding teacher’s training. The important ones of these are; • The teachers have to remain out of schools and classes for long time which leads to criticism amongst the community and also obstructs the learning of children. • The teachers may not implement the training content they have learnt during training for various reasons and may not take additional initiatives other than the content they have learnt during training. • The moral of teachers may not remain high, as personal initiative/leadership does not become apparent in the present training exercise. • Trainings do not always support monitoring even though that is crucial for any project. Why teacher training in the school in which they are teaching? • It has been estimated that the teacher trainings every year involves lot of cost in terms of time and other resources. • Due to prolonged absence of teachers many a times the studies suffer because of lack of continuity and focus and public criticism is also there . • Trainings are also not at times conducted properly rather there is emphasis on completion of targeted mandays instead of quality. • The trainings do not give adequate importance to the personal initiative and drive of the teachers and thus goes against the principle of leadership and motivation in the long run. • There is no reporting in change in learning Level of schools. Project • It is intended to make every school a self contained entity where the training needs of every teacher can be taken care, the required support if any is provided and at the same time there is proper convergence with various resource levels of the state. • The philosophy of Think it over(where teachers sit together to prepare Lesson Plans on designed format) project is still to continue but with a slight change in as much as the teachers of different schools will not get together every time to sort out various learning related issues, rather in every school there will be one School Teacher Trainer cum master trainer who will take care of the training needs of teachers of that school. S/he will provide the necessary support to the school head in establishing proper teaching-learning process, self evaluation and monitoring. • Every school head will hold, with all category of teachers teachers, in the schools a fortnightly meeting regarding the lesson plans which are going to be imparted in the coming fortnight focussing mainly on objectives, presentations, students tasks, question banks ,based on different learning level such as memory, application, analysis and creative level as per Think It Over strategy. All will work in team to get best learning outcome of all students irrespective of any classes. ‘SWAYAMSIDHAM’, a Project for keeping the teachers within the school for trainings, feedback • For this meeting the head will be assisted by the one teacher of the school of him/her choice (School Teacher Trainer) ,who will coordinate the meeting. • In the meeting the lesson plans prepared by the teachers for transaction during coming fortnight will be discussed and analyzed and improvements if any required will be done in the group . Learning attainment of students would be analysed. Remedial classes may be taken in hard areas of learning in any subjects by all the categories of teachers. Filtration of the problems • In these fortnightly meetings the problems contained in the above mentioned meetings will be sorted out by the teachers from concerned school themselves in a group method. • The head with the active help of the School Teacher Trainer will separate out those problems the solutions for which could not be made at the local level. Those problems will be uploaded at the portal • Resource groups at the state level has been developed ,on the basis of past performance and training, to provide the required support and guidance on the portal http://rmsahimachal.nic.in A portal for the teachers for problem solving, sharing their innovations and for regular support and monitoring • The Portal has been designed in the following manner: • Each of the school trainer and the members of SRG has been assigned a unique ID and password. • Through this ID and password, the heads shall login the portal and submit the information regarding problem/questions at the school level. • The potal is dynamic. The SRG would provide the solution. Portal contd • This portal has been designed in such a way that all the members of SRG and ICT-equipped schools and all Edu.Deptt. employees can see the contents in the portal and through their login-tab are able to insert their suggestions or solutions. • There is facility of likes and dislikes of the answers. They will become techno-friendly also • Involvement of head/SRG/Dy. Directors/DPO’s and higher authority in whole exercise will help the training the shift towards quality. The responsibility of the administrators for quality can be fixed. • As the teachers will try to solve their problems through group approach the same will develop their capacities through inquiry and analyses. OUTCOMES •Onsite support to teachers •Effective use of ICT •Enhancement of Teacher’s capacity for academic planning •Effective implementation of Learning Indicators •It is to establish the pedagogical ,learning, assessment and school leadership management standards by in school planning •Online support of SRG to teachers and students through web portal •Capacity building of Resource group through continuous engagement with teachers in the classroom. •All the learning resources are now available in the school in the form of learning indicators , Lesson Plans, Big Question banks based on different levels of learning ,onsite continuous support by SRG, web portal, • It is a site developed excusively by the teachers and for the teachers to enhance their creativity and innovation to adopt the methods to get best learning outcome in the schools.
