Our Cultural Heritage Project
4th Grade HGT
Objectives:
Students will celebrate the diversity of their cultural backgrounds in order to
gain an understanding of different cultures around the world.
Students will learn about their cultural heritage and/or family history by
choosing one of the four options for study below.
Students will present some of the information to the class.
Options for study:
1) Students can research the unique cultural background of their family if
such information is known. If the family immigrated to the United
States at some point, they can research the culture that the family
immigrated from.
2) Students can learn the history of their family and research historical
events that were important to their family’s history.
3) Students can learn about their family traditions and compare their
traditions with other families’ traditions from different cultures.
Assignments to complete for the project
1) Interview at least one family member to find out about your cultural
heritage.
2) Do research online or at the library to read and learn more about your
family’s cultural background, history, and/or traditions.
3) Complete the “My Cultural Heritage” page.
4) Prepare a 2-5 minute presentation about your cultural heritage that
you will present to the class.
5) Prepare a visual aid for you presentation. This visual aid can be:
 A family tree
 A poster that includes pictures of your family and/or pictures of
your family’s culture or countries of origin
 A PowerPoint presentation
 A website that contains information or pictures of your family’s
cultural heritage
 An online video
Directions for project:
1) Choose a study option from the list above: 1, 2, or 3
2) Write the interview questions you want to ask your family member.
3) Interview your family member to find out more about your cultural
heritage.
4) Write questions you have about your cultural heritage that you would
like to learn more about. Use question words: Who, What, Why, When,
Where, How, Does, Do, etc.
5) Go to the library or log on to the Internet to research information and
read about topics related to your study choice and the questions you
asked.

6) Complete the “My Cultural Heritage” page.
7) Prepare a visual aid for your presentation.
8) Prepare your presentation. The presentation will be short, only 2-5
minutes so focus on the big ideas or most interesting things you
learned about your family’s cultural heritage.
9) Practice your presentation so you are ready to present it in front of the
class.
