Part-time Research Assistant (RA) Position Description: Economic Research Assistant Indiana Business Research Center Kelley School of Business – Indiana University (For a PDF version of this announcement, go to www.ibrc.indiana.edu/positions) Job Summary: The RA will assist IBRC research staff who conduct analyses of economic and demographic data to provide insight into the economies of Indiana, its regions and communities, and the nation as a whole. The RA will work at the IBRC office in downtown Bloomington. A half-time-or-greater schedule is preferred, with specific hours flexible. The IBRC is happy to consider the RA assignment as an internship if requested. Primary Duties: Assist in analyzing trends in demographic and economic indicators over time and for various geographic areas. Collaborate effectively with IBRC staff in the design and implementation of large projects involving economic/demographic/social data and analysis. Work with IBRC research staff members to forecast population, employment, incomes, workforce characteristics, and similar economic variables using data from various federal and state agencies and other relevant sources. Assist with economic impact analyses and economic modeling studies. Present conclusions and implications of analyses clearly in written and oral formats. Collaborate with IBRC staff in the configuration and effective use of internal databases of economic indicators. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Required qualifications. Training in economics, demography, geography, business, public policy, sociology or a related field. Experience with statistics and analysis, coupled with the ability to extract useful insights from complex datasets. Solid working knowledge of economics. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel. Experience with statistical software including: SAS, SPSS, or STATA. Desired qualifications. Demonstrated proficiency in analyzing, interpreting and presenting economic and/or demographic data. Experience with analytical software like Access, SQL queries or GIS. A STATA power-user would be particularly well received.
