Good Public Transport, Good City
Jakarta, August 28th 2013
As a worldwide phenomenon, rapid urbanization in Asian developing countries has
resulted in enormous challenges that cities have to cope. Fast motorization, which in
turn causes deterioration of environment and loss of productivity, reveals as the
prominent one. To encounter this issue, a proper management of a city is urgently
needed. Local Governments are challenged to provide decent mass public transport,
entailing innovative transport systems that possibly prevent environmental pollution.
The United Cities and Local Governments Asia-Pacific Regional Section (UCLG
ASPAC) together with Provincial Government of Jakarta as a host initiated a
“Workshop on Urban Mobility and Environment” on Thursday, August 29th
2013, in J.W.Marriott Hotel Jakarta. Starting at 9 am, this workshop aims to share
good practices on urban mobility – with inspiring lessons from Ginseng country,
South Korea, delivered by Dr. Gyeng-Chul Kim- President of The Korea Transport
Institute (KOTI) as a keynote speaker, Dr. Thomas Jin- researcher, and
Changwon City Representative.
Local Governments from various provinces of Indonesia as well as Indonesian Local
Government Associations are scheduled to participate in the event. As Megapolitan
City with new promising leadership, Province of Jakarta is also expected to share its
experience on Jakarta’s Intelligent Transport System (ITS).
On behalf of Governor Joko Widodo (Co-Presidents of UCLG ASPAC), Mr. Sulistyo
Prabowo, Assistant of Deputy Governor for Transportation will deliver the opening
remark. A newly appointed Secretary General, Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi
– the first Indonesian and female Secretary General of the UCLG regional section will
give her congratulatory remarks. UCLG is a worldwide association of local
government organizations set up in 2004. The history of UCLG dates back to 1913
when IULA (International Union of Local Authorities) was established. UCLG is the
only local government organization recognized by the United Nations, and nominates
10 out of 20 members of UNACLA, the first advisory body of local authorities
affiliated with the UN. Jakarta hosts the Secretariat of UCLG ASPAC - the biggest of
the 8 sections in UCLG that links to more than 7.000 local governments. It represents
well over 3.76 billion people - more than half of the world population - and
incorporates economically fast developing countries such as China, India and
Indonesia.

Belajar Transportasi Dari Negeri Ginseng

Sebagai sebuah fenomena massal, urbanisasi pesat di gegara-negara berkembang
Asia membawa tantangan tersendiri. Pertumbuhan kendaraan bermotor, yang
kemudian menyebabkan perusakan lingkungan & turunnya produktivitas, adalah
salah salah satu yang menonjol. Untuk menanggulangi hal ini, manajemen kota yang
baik sangat diperlukan. Pemerintah Daerah ditantang untuk mampu menyediakan
transportasi massal yang layak, termasuk di dalamnya sistem transport yang inovatif,
yang mampu mencegah polusi lingkungan.
United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pasifik (UCLG ASPAC) bekerjasama
dengan Pemerintah Provinsi DKI Jakarta sebagai tuan rumah, menggagas
“Workshop Mobilitas Urban & Dampaknya Bagi Lingkungan” yang
diselenggarakan Kamis, 29 Agustus 2013 di hotel J.W.Marriott, Jakarta.
Workshop yang dimulai pukul 9 pagi ini bertujuan menggali pengalaman Negeri
Ginseng, Korea Selatan, dalam penanganan mobilitas urban, yang disampaikan
Presiden Institut Transportasi Korea- Dr. Gyeng-Chul Kim, sebagai pembicara
utama, peneliti transportasi- Dr. Thomas Jin, & perwakilan dari Pemerintah Kota
Changwon.
Peserta dari workshop ini adalah Pemerintah-Pemerintah daerah dari berbagai
provinsi & Asosiasi-Asosiasi pemerintah daerah, di Indonesia. Sebagai Kota
Megapolitan, Jakarta akan membagi pengalamannya melalui “Intelligent Transport
System” (ITS).
Mewakili Gubernur Joko Widodo (yang juga co-President dari UCLG ASPAC),
Sulistyo Prabowo, Asisten Deputi Gubernur bidang transportasi, akan memberi
pidato sambutan. SekJen UCLG ASPAC yang baru saja terpilih, Dr.Bernadia
Irawati Tjandradewi, yang merupakan SekJen UCLG seksi kawasan pertama dari
Indonesia sekaligus SekJen UCLG seksi kawasan perempuan pertama, juga akan
menyampaikan secara langsung pidatonya. UCLG adalah organisasi internasional
yang mewadahi pemerintah-pemerintah daerah di seluruh dunia, & dibentuk sejak
tahun 1913. UCLG adalah satu-satunya organisasi pemerintah daerah yang diakui
oleh PBB, &menominasikan 10 dari 20 anggota UNACLA, badan penasehat otoritas
lokal pertama yang berafiliasi dengan PBB. Divisi Asia & Pasifik, dengan jaringan
lokal lebih dari 7000 pemerintah daerah, adalah divisi UCLG terbesar dari 8 divisi
UCLG. Divisi ini mewakili lebih dari 3,76 milyar orang - lebih dari setengah populasi
dunia - & menggabungkan negara-negara dengan pertumbuhan ekonomi tinggi
seperti China, India & Indonesia.
