Self – Assessment
Today, I spend a few hours to read most of my classmates’ paper and
response them carefully. I responded to 8 classmates’ papers. On the aspect of
participation, I will give myself 2 points. For building framework of
understanding, I want to give myself 1.5 points. For substantial connections with
readings, I want to give 2.5 points to myself. On the aspect of dialogue with ideas
of others, I will give me 2.5 points. Then my total points will be 8.5 points. In my
posts, I do not only tell the writers why I like their paper, I also compare some of
their points to others and mine. I also tell them some weakness of their paper
that I think they should improve. I think in this way, both the writer and I can
develop.
Through comparing the paper of my classmates and mine, I find many
things that I should learn from my classmates. I know what I should improve
clearly. My paper always makes reader confused about my main idea. I do not
have a good organization of structure. Usually, I do not have transition between
each paragraph or each point. I also cannot use quote exactly. For example, I read
Thitipong’s Academic paper 2. His point is about the society’s effect to people in
different race. I can see his main idea of this paper in his first paragraph clearly.
For me, I always state many ideas in the introduction paragraph and I cannot
explain every idea in the body part of paper. Even sometimes I will feel confuse
about my ideas.
I think it is an advantage as a reader. Standing on the position of a reader,
I know what the readers want to read in a paper. I know what readers are
interested in. Because of knowing this, I will know how to state a writer’s
thoughts. I will know how to attract reader’s attention. I will know how to revise
my paper and improve my writing skill.
Post and response is also a good way to improve my writing. I can
communicate with others and listen to their opinion. I also can learn many things
from this way. One of my classmates posts his thought about my paper that the
topic is stage. He told me that he is interested in the stage of woman and how
woman changes in different stage. Beside that, he also told me some information
about the stage of man. I think it is a good communication. We can argue this
topic deeply and extend many other thoughts about this topic. It helps me to
research my topic.
After I reading my classmates’ paper and talking with some of them, I
consider what I should improve of my every assignment, like:
Assignment #2 – Title – what is intelligence, anyway? – 2 pages
Development: My idea is high intelligence cannot help people do everything, but
it can help people get what they want easily. I should conclude more with this
point.
Assignment #4 – Title – life stage – 2 pages
Development: In this paper I want to prove how the age 18 is important for a
young people. I should analyze more about people behave before 18 and after 18.
Assignment #6 – Title – the children’s thoughts – 5 pages
Development: Children have many issues because of the modern society. My
organization needs to be improved.
Assignment #7 – Title – note from a son to his father – 2 pages
Development: It is a paper about the relationship between son and father. I need
to combine my experience to understand writer’s thoughts.
Assignment: #8 – Title – old people – 2 pages
Development: I described my grandfather’s behavior and thoughts. My
description of grandfather is not enough. I want to use his appearance and
behavior to show his lonely.
Assignment #9 – Title – cosmetic surgery’s disadvantages – 5 pages
Development: it is about beauty. I should use our class source and explain more
about my quote and example.
Of course, there are not just these papers should be improved, but these are my
paper that I need to revise mostly.
I chat paper with my classmates. It also can promote the emotion of us. In
short, to post my opinion and to replay other’s opinion about me is really a good
way to help me develop.
