Fees & Costs Fees 2014 Fees are invoiced twice per year. Semester fees are set at a minimum to cover the general running of the program, including the cost of conductors, the administrator, and the purchase of sheet music. You can pay fees on either a semester or full-year basis. Fees are $400 per year ($200 per semester) for the Wind, Jazz and String programs. Upfront payment in full attracts a discount of $20 (i.e. $380 per year). Jazz Program membership costs a supplement of $80 per year (Jazz Levy of $40 per semester). Year 12 students receive 50% discount on Semester 2 fees because they finish school and leave the IMP at the end of term 3. Payment methods: - Call the IMP office at Leichhardt campus front office on 9560 2355 (Monday to Wednesday 9am – 2pm) and we will take down your credit card over the phone, OR - Come to Front Office at Leichhardt campus only with your invoice and pay with credit card or cheque. NB – no other campuses accept IMP payments! Other Costs They include: - IMP Uniform: please see page 5 - Compulsory IMP Camp (Wednesday 4 to Friday 6 June 2014). Costs approx $300 - IMP Tour in term 4 (optional). Costs approx $300 Fundraising Contribution Each year the IMP implements a voluntary fundraising levy to provide additional resources and enhance the quality of our IMP program. In the past, this levy has funded purchase of musical instruments, music stands and funded guest educators for special events. The levy is designed to replace small fundraising activities that are labour intensive and time consuming (e.g. BBQs, raffles). We ask each student/family to make a contribution to this levy: Families with 1 student in the IMP - $30 per semester or $60 per year Families with 2+ students in the IMP - $50 per semester or $100 per year IMPORTANT As the IMP is an extra curricular activity funded by fees paid by parents, non-payment may mean that your child is excluded from the IMP program. Please contact the IMP Committee if you are having payment difficulties or would like to make alternative payment arrangements. 4 INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC PROGRAM Sydney Secondary College 3. Absence from Rehearsals & Performances Notice is required to explain any absence from a rehearsal or performance. Music making in an ensemble is about team work and commitment: unexplained absences make rehearsals difficult and affect the quality of performances. Our attendance policy as outlined below: Sydney Secondary College IMP employs a three strike policy regarding absences. First Strike (first unexplained absence in a term) Parent/carer will be notified by email. Second Strike (second unexplained absence in a term) Parent/carer and college principal will be notified by email. Warning will be given that if the student is absent again her/his position in the ensemble may be awarded to another player. Third Strike (third unexplained absence in a term) The IMP Music Director and conductor will consider demoting the student to a lower position in their ensemble or, in habitual cases demoting the student to a lower ensemble. Parent/carer will be notified of our decision by email. e.g. After three absences in term 2, a WO 2nd trombone player will be demoted to 3rd trombone and the 2nd position will be awarded to another player. Please note: an explained absence in the case of sudden (serious) illness or (serious) misadventure are acceptable. Please email sscimp@det.nsw.edu.au the day of sickness. The IMP is aware of college events that may result in absences. Planned absence for external events such as State Music Camp must be notified within 5 days of the absence. Withdrawal Withdrawing from an IMP group or the IMP requires a written request. Parents/carers must inform the IMP administrator well in advance by contacting sscimp@det.nsw.edu.au If no formal withdrawal has been received by the IMP, fees still need to be paid. 6 INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC PROGRAM Sydney Secondary College 5. Tutor Program All members of the IMP must have private lessons for their instrument. Tutoring for members of the IMP can be arranged on school premises through the Tutor Program. On-site tutors communicate the student’s progress to the IMP Music Director. Lesson times and fees are to be arranged between parents/carers and tutors. Students have the opportunity to have lessons at recess or lunch time, so that they do not miss class. Tutors book rooms for lessons, and will advise parents/carers of lesson location. All SSC tutors are subject to the College’s child protection policies. It is the parents’ responsibility to inform tutors directly of any excursions, sickness or other reason for their child missing their lesson with adequate notice. The following tutors are available at SSC. Instruments Instrument storage Leichhardt, Balmain and Blackwattle Bay campuses all have secure storage facilities where students must leave their instruments before and after rehearsals. Students must remember to collect their instrument promptly at the end of the day. Please note – students are NOT allowed to store their instrument anywhere else in the school. Instrument hire All students are encouraged to own their own instruments. The IMP has some larger instruments available for hire, e.g. trombones, euphoniums, bari sax, bass clarinet etc. These instruments are available for hire at $300 per year (or $150 per semester). Students need to hand in a paid and completed instrument hire form to the Leichhardt front office before they can pick up their instrument. Please email our Instruments Manager through sscimp@det.nsw.edu.au to request an instrument hire form and invoice. Students can also hire instruments from: The Arts Unit Sax and Woodwind Sydney String Centre CARL Other local music shops also have hire-purchase arrangements that allow you to put the money you spend on hire towards a purchase at a later date. Instrument Servicing and Maintenance Contact the IMP about periodic maintenance of IMP owned hire instruments. Instrument insurance All students are required to have insurance for hired and owned instruments. This should cover the instrument at home, in transit and at school. Students hiring instruments from the IMP are responsible for the costs of any damage incurred on the instrument and replacement or repairs to the instrument. 8 INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC PROGRAM Sydney Secondary College 7.
