It has been catering around Chelannur the academic needs of the students in and for the past four decades. The motto of the College is ‘enlightenment through education’ and it endeavours to mould a community of students committed to the pursuit of truth and moral excellence upholding the high ideals of Sree Narayana Guru, our patron. We aim at building up a humane and socially committed fraternity of young men and women by the upliftment of the downtrodden masses through education. The basic objective of the institution is to provide education to the marginalised section of the society. Our goal is to focus towards the use of education as a means of socio- economic progress, intellectual awakening and empowerment of the weaker sections and to provide opportunities to enter into service. At present our institution has total strength of about 900 students studying the various branches of science, arts and commerce. We indented to provide opportunities for better employment through special coaching for competitive examinations and improvement in communicative skills. Plan of Action for the Year 2011-12 As charted out in the Plan of the HEI for the year 2010-2011, a series of activities and programmes were conducted in keeping with the vision developed earlier. The plan focused on certain key areas like Apply MA Economics course New Computer lab for M Com students Teachers to apply for Recognitions and Awards. Electronics lab for Physics Department Focusing on UGC Projects, both Minor and Major. Orienting students as social beings by organizing Social Outreach Programmes Complete the construction of Women’s Hostel funded by UGC Developing Infrastructure in a major way Construction of Compound wall Encourage sports students for state level, national level International level achievements Organising seminars not only of academic interest but also on matters of social relevance. Upgrading Fine Arts skills in students. SECTION B: 1. B. Activities and Achievements of the year 2011-12 Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the Institution The academic programmes for the year are designed in such a way that it focuses on the vision and mission of the institution. The programmes cater to the needs of the students of the locality and at the same time mould their personality. To mould the students as mature and responsible citizens of the nation, the need for social awareness was realized and hence importance was given to outreach programs. Two units NSS were functioning in the college with the leadership of two program Officers Mr. Sjayan T. of Statistics Department and Mr. Mujeeb Rehman of Commerce Department. 2. Various socially important programmes have been organized by the NSS units in and outside the college campus during the year. 3. A free medical check-up and free blood group check up camp has been organized 4. NSS volunteers celebrated the Gandhi Jayanthi on 2nd oct 2011 by arranging a variety of social services. Volunteers have visited the houses of the nearby villages and educated the family members on health related matters like H1 N1 flue, Chikun Guniya and other flu to the patients of the area. 5. Compulsory Social Service is a unique programme implemented by the University of Calicut. Under this scheme, each UG student must perform 42 days service to the Nation. In order to get the degree certificate, he/she should submit a certificate regarding the social service to the University. CSS is done under the supervision of the class tutors. 7. Various community service activities are undertaken by students in the year 2011-12 a) Cleaning of the College campus at least once in a fortnight. b) Periodical cleaning of the public road in front of the college. c) Voluntary blood donation B. National Cadet Crops (NCC) 1. Fifty students are enrolled in the Naval Wing. The aim of this unit is to train leadership quality and select the cadets to participate various camps and inculcate social service and community development activities. 2. Celebrated Independence Day 3. The first year NCC cadets were enrolled after preliminary screening. Selection of cadets was based on Physical fitness and efforts in extracurricular activities. 4. NCC Cadets conducted ceremonial parade on Independence day. 5. The NCC unit conducted a one day trekking. The cadets crossed the 6. rivers and climbed the mountains adventurously. 7. Courses in which student assessment of teachers is introduced and the action taken on student feedback In par with the student evaluation system, teacher evaluation system is also functioning in all departments to keep in track with the quality education. The academic monitoring committee evaluates the feedback collected from the students. The anomalies are put to consideration and proper corrective measures are taken from time to time in department meetings. Feedbacks from parents are also collected during class PTA and other occasions of parents visit. Significant suggestions and feedback are selected, analyzed and informed to different committees for implementation 21. Feedback from stakeholders The complaints of the students are addressed by the grievance cell of the college. The Staff Advisor and Council acts on the complaints received and suggests appropriate measures to rectify them. 22. Unit cost of education : 5523/- 23.
