Department of Management Sciences New Initiatives The department of Management Sciences has started four year BS level degree program in the year 2012, Bachelors in Public Administration (BPA). The department has established computer lab that would help our students build IT skills and to provide them practical experience of various application softwares Start of new discipline of public Administration. Introduction of Supply Chain Management and Business Administrative Ethics in BBA, B.com Semester- VII. Introduction of Multivariate Analysis and International Relation and Current Affairs in MS Management in Semester 3rd. Future Plans In order to offer the post graduate degree program, the department of management sciences is planning to hire Visiting PhD Professors. Besides, current faculty members would be provided the opportunity to upgrade their existing qualifications. There is an intense requirement of enhancement of library contents. Department of Management Sciences is intended to bring improvement in terms of journals, up to date business magazines, company annual reports and business newspapers. Annual Report 2012-13 231 Our department focuses on research oriented environment, for the purpose of which, we are planning to get access to digital library. Both faculty and students will get an opportunity to fulfill their research requirements. In order to provide students practical know how of the taught courses, the department is intended to arrange more field trips through the industry and academia linkages. During summer vacations in the year 2013, department is planning to conduct short courses relating to Business Plans, E- Commerce, Marketing Strategies, Strategic Management, Total Quality Management and Financial Accounting. The department is planning to start new program titled “Banking and Finance” in collaborations with Economics Department, LCWU. Planning to launching 2 year MBA after 16- year of education, eligibility criteria is BBA, B.Com, BS(4-Year) Economics. Planning to launching 2 year M.Com after 16- year of education, eligibility criteria is B.Com (4-Year). Planning to launching 2 year MS in Entrepreneurship after 16- year of education, eligibility criteria is BBA, B.Com, BS(4-Year). Planning to launching 2 year MS in Quality Management after 16- year of education, eligibility criteria is BBA, B.Com. LCA Future Programs 1. To finalize the approval of LCA Display and Training Centre already approved by Vice Chancellor Dr. Sabiha Mansoor. 2. Summer short courses (subject to the availability of space). 3. Literacy project. 4. Free medical camp (to provide diagnostic and health care facilities). 5. To organize seminars on various important topics. 6. Plantation of medicinal plants. Conclusion Student Council The Student Council aspires to become an even more efficient student body of LCWU in the next five years by: Assisting the university administration in the maintenance of discipline and management of student affairs. Monthly meetings/assembly of all the semesters turn wise with the Vice Chancellor in the Auditorium Sports Cricket Development Plan Lahore College for Women University Cricket Club was established in 2012. Cricket is the most popular game in Pakistan. In 2012, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Sabiha Mansoor took an initiative to promote cricket in LCWU and ensured the provision of all the facilities to the university students to enjoy cricket. Inter society participation for students. Societies should make their activities attractive so that students from all over the university can participate e.g. an Economics student can be a member of the Psychological Society. 2. More emphasis should be given to character building of students by teaching of moral and ethical values through lectures and tutorials. 3. Collaboration between different societies of GCU and LCWU, especially; a) GCU’s Music Society b) GCU’s Dramatic Club To revive the tradition of a State of the Art Annual play and Annual debates. Hostel 1. LCWU plans to construct another hostel building to accommodate at least 200 students to cater to the ever increasing needs of students who come from distant areas. 2. Independent cubicles for senior students. 3. Few rooms for single faculty opting to stay in the hostel. Dining Hall: A spacious Dining Hall will be constructed to facilitate students and faculty members which will offer subsidized meals. Establishing a Psychological Testing Centre Programs for internees regarding training in psychological testing and individual counseling Offer services for aptitude testing at the time of admissions Introducing latest psychological tests for students and faculty 2. Medical Facilities A designated spacious observatory room with at least 3 beds, I/V stands and partition curtains (At present, there is a single bed observatory room with no facility). A separate washroom and kitchenette for the patients (At present, there is no washroom for patients). An electric filter plant for filtration of water so that clean water would be available to patients (At present, there is an ordinary filter and quality of water is not good). For a comfortable environment at health centre, air-conditioners and new ceiling fans will be provided (At present , we have only one room cooler and four ceiling fans in the building, out of which two ceiling fans are very old and not functioning properly). Ramp/slope at entrance for convenient movement of stretcher/wheel chair within and out of health centre. LCHC should either be affiliated with a specific department for typing and printing of documents or provided with a separate computer, printer and relative accessories for effective communication with other departments. Provision of above mentioned facilities will certainly improve the functioning and services of LCHC which is also essential and in the interest of students and staff of university. Centre for Career Counseling and Job Placement: Career Success and Their Role as Future Leaders by: Helping students start their career planning and preparation at an early stage through career and student development programs Soliciting more internship opportunities and further expand the employment network for graduates Effectively improving students in behavior and skills necessary to seek and qualify for job. Inviting government officers, judges, women entrepreneurs and members of Federal, Provincial and Public Services for interaction with students Conducting workshop and seminars to encourage students toward public and private employment The Centre for Career Counseling and Job Placement is offering the following services to students: Career counseling services which includes, identifying Career Interests, effective search methods, access to job listings, linkages with local jobagencies Skills training services including, resume writing, making cover letters, interviewing techniques, effective communication, coping with job and personal life Annual Report 2012-13 236 Job Placement Services including, presentations for career opportunities, rotating resumes to agencies, access to industrial linkages, accepting a job and retaining a career.
