a legal responsibility to ensure the regular school
attendance of their children aged between 6 and 17
years.
An ambulance will be called to
transport a child to hospital should
the need arise. Every effort will be
made to contact the parents or
emergency contact prior to calling an ambulance.
The school day starts at 8.30am with period 1. It is each
student’s responsibility to move to their first class
promptly after the bell rings in the morning, and ensure
that their Teacher electronically marks them as being at
school.
ALLERGIES, ANAPHYLAXIS, ASTHMA, DIABETES &

LATE ARRIVALS
Students arriving to school after the bell should go
directly to the Student Administration office. Late
students MUST provide a note from home explaining
the reason for their lateness. The student’s lateness will
be recorded as a Partial Absence on that day. Where no
note is supplied for lateness to school the absence will

MONITORING STUDENT BEHAVIOUR
To monitor student performance and behaviour at
school, OFHS has a welfare system. If your teachers
believe you are not performing in class, not behaving
appropriately or having some problems, you will have
your name entered on the welfare program.
If your name appears a number of times you will be
asked to attend an interview to discuss the situation,
possibly with your parents. If it continues, you may be
placed on a Monitoring Card. A Monitoring Card
requires you to have your teacher’s evaluate and
comment on your behaviour in each lesson.
If improvements are not seen, further action will be
taken, according to the school discipline system.
PARENTS AND CITIZENS ASSOCIATION (P&C)
The P&C Association is a forum to discuss a diverse
range of educational issues and is the representative
body for all families and community members.
The association meets on the first Tuesday of every
month in the school library commencing at 7.00pm.
The P&C works in partnership with the school. It greatly
supports the school with fund raising activities and
participates in making key decisions within the school.
Parents, as partners in education, are
encouraged through the P&C to play an
active role in the education of their
children.
NAPLAN
Years 7 and 9 participate in the nation-wide testing
program in literacy and numeracy. Each family is
advised of their child’s literacy and numeracy standards
in relation to standards identified as State/Australia
levels. At the same time, the test results, individually
and collectively, provide valuable information for the
school.
PARKING
Please do not at any time double park your car or park
across a driveway as this is very dangerous for our
students.
Student parking graveled area right hand side of the
hall only.
NEWSLETTER
Once a month the school publishes a newsletter. The
newsletter is an excellent source of information and
gives insight into our school and broader community.
POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SYSTEM (PBS)
From 2013, Oak Flats High School will be embracing the
“a sustainable future” program and parents will be able
to subscribe, free of charge, to receive the newsletter
directly to their email address or download the file from
the internet or onto their mobile. Attached at back is
the “Newsletter Email Subscription”.
The core values of CARE, RESPECT and RESPONSIBILTY
are encouraged through specialised lessons and the
awarding of PBS tickets to those students who display
these values through their behaviour in the playground,
in the canteen, corridors and at assemblies. These
tickets go into weekly prize draws with major prizes
draws at the end of each term.
This will help our students learn more about technology
and also how to protect the local environment by
reducing landfills from empty toner cartridges and
other waste.
PHOTOGRAPHS
Each year a professional photographer is invited to our
school, to photograph each student and take photos of
SRC Leaders. Envelopes from the photographer are
sent home, detailing packages available and the
deadline for return of monies. Envelopes with payment
to be handed to photographer.
If you prefer not to receive an electronic copy of our

TOILETS
Both boys and girls toilets are located off West Quad,
either side of the canteen to be used before and after
school and during the breaks.
As a general rule, students are not permitted to go to
the toilet within 15 minutes after the end of a break. If
you need to visit the toilet during a lesson, you will
need to negotiate this with your teacher, have your
diary signed and go to the front administration office to
use the toilet facilities located there.
OUT OF BOUNDS AREAS
In the playground, there are some areas that are “out of
bounds”. For your safety you are not to be in these
areas at any time during the school day. They are
indicated by yellow lines painted on the ground around
the school. For example, the car park.
The toilets are not a place for socialising.

concerns you may have. We are happy to support your
child and your family in whatever way we can.

on the final two days of Term 4 to prepare for the
following year. Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16

ELECTRONIC DEVICES POLICY
Rationale – Mobile phones, MP3 players and computers are an integral part of modern society. Futhermore, developments in
technology mean that several of these devices may be one and the same. This rapidly developing technology can impact on the
school environment. The school accepts that many students possess electronic devices, and use them as a part of their everyday
lives. The school also acknowledges that the devices have a role to play in students’ safety and security, as well as in their learning.
In order to prepare our students for the world in which they will live and work after school, it is imperative that we acknowledge
and utilize technology in practical ways.
A clear policy on the use of electronic devices at school is necessary to ensure that students’ wellbeing of any person, or is in breach
of any law, is inappropriate and will be dealt with according to the school’s discipline code.
This policy aims to give individual teachers ownership of the ways in which technology is used as a learning tool, for their benefit as
well as students’.
Policy – Electronic devices are brought to school and used at owners’ risk. No liability will be accepted by the school in the event of
the loss, theft or damage of any device.
Electronic devices may be used at breaks within the rules of this policy.
In classrooms, individual teachers will stipulate if and when electronic devices are permitted to be used.
The use of social networking applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc is prohibited during school hours.
Students are prohibited from using electronic devices during assemblies, year meetings and similar activities.
Parents are encouraged to contact students via the school office during school hours.
Under the Telecommunication Act there are specific guidelines about the storage and use of inappropriate material. It is against the
law for students to take photos, video or images of another person under the age of consent without parental permission. Students
are therefore strictly prohibited from taking these at school. Should there be breaches relating to these areas the school will
confiscate the device used and may contact parents of guardians for collection. A full range of discipline measures, including
suspension, may apply.
Breaches of the Electronic Devices Policy – If a student uses an electronic device inappropriately:


The device will be delivered to a Deputy Principal and can be collected at the end of the day
If the device is confiscated three times, it will remain with the Deputy Principal until the student’s parents/carers are
contacted.
Cyber Safety and Responsible Citizenship – It is important that student’s understand their responsibilities as a citizen of the school
community. Our school values of Care, Respect and Responsibility apply as much on-line as they do off-line. Cyber-bullying is a part
of the schools anti-bulling policy and will be dealt with in accordance with the schools discipline and welfare policies. Cyber-bullying
includes all communications that seek to threaten, humiliate, intimidate, control or put another person(s) down.
