Weekly Newsletter for the week of October 31st – November 4th Here’s what we did: In Language Arts we have split into two different directions. The morning group is beginning the book, “Tuck Everlasting.” Look for assignments to be posted in the corresponding folder in case anything is lost. The packet to accompany the book is long, but we will be working through it for about a month. The afternoon language arts group is working our way through “On the Banks of Plum Creek,” inspired by our field trip to Hale Farm on Thursday. We will be focusing on first and third person, along with learning and making similes. Due to timing, there was no vocabulary quiz this week, but will be pushed until next Wednesday. In Social Studies we are beginning our study of chapter 2, section 2 dealing with British and French settlement in Ohio and their interactions with American Indians. Along with reading the chapter we have discussion, vocabulary, comprehension questions and hand-on activities like charades. On Thursday we went to Hale Farm along with the first grade. It was a fantastic day and we learned a lot! Look for a Paper, Inc article about this next week. Here’s what’s coming up: Conferences are here! I look forward to meeting with each of you next Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. If you are unsure about your conference time, please let me know! This Friday, November 4th, is Family Movie night! Information went home on Wednesday. In Music, the students will begin using recorders. The school has recorders available, but if you would like to purchase one, they are $2.50. Information came home on Wednesday concerning this. The Scholastic Book Fair will be the week of November 14th- 18th. Information is coming home tonight. We will also be having double duty with another field trip on Thursday, October 17th. Permission slips are coming home today. Students will only have school on Monday and Tuesday the week of Thanksgiving (November 22nd and 23rd). We will also be having a school assembly on Tuesday, November 23rd concerning courteous students among other items. Important Information: There are a number of families that still need to return school fees. Please send these back to school soon. You can also pay them at the Board of Education. Keep on checking those planners and the website! More assignments and links are being added to folders weekly. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact me through email or phone. Sonja.Kreps@Lakewood.k12.oh.us or 216-529-4232.
