Count the words that you know: I got 7 words from 20 words.
I think I have not been mastering the vocabulary well. From 20 words I only know 7 words. I still
cannot guess the meaning of the words. The prove is from the 20 words I only got 7 words that
I know. I got the 7 words just by guessing from the combination of a word with the prefix or
suffix. I don’t know that my guessing is correct or not.

3. Below are listed some words followed by incorrect definitions.
1. Tennet (a group of ten singers)
The possible reasons why the students made the guesses:

Because the word “tennet” consists of the word “ten”. The “-et” means as the suffix of
the word. In the word “duet” consists of the word “duo” followed by “-et”. Duet means
a group of 2 singers. If the word “duet” is a group of 2 singers, then it is possible that
tennet means a group of ten singers.
2. Dermatology (a study of derms)

Because the word “dermatology” consists of the word “derma”. After that, the word
“derma” is followed by the suffix “-tology” or “-logy”. If a word is followed by the suffix
“-logy”, sometimes the meaning is a study of… (Something). For example Biology, this
means a study of bio or living organism and nature. It is possible that dermatology is a
study of derms/derma.
3. Ingenious (not very smart)

Because the word “ingenious” consists of the prefix in- and the word “genious”. The
prefix in- can mean that something is not… or called as antonym. For example, the word
“indirect” from the word direct. Indirect is the antonym of direct. If indirect is the
antonym of direct, then it is possible that ingenious is the antonym of the word genious.
