Once there was a kite. A little blue kite with a bright yellow tail. She was
very pretty to look at. But she didn’t like to fly too high.
The little blue kite belonged
to a boy named Bobby. One
evening Bobby took her out.
She flew into a tree and
would not come down.
Bobby pulled and pulled at
the string. The string broke.
Bobby was very sad. He left
the little blue kite up in the
tree and went back home.
Darkness fell. The little blue
kite hid herself among the
leaves. And she had a
dream. In her dream a puff
of breeze asked her, Why
are you hiding?’ ‘I’m afraid to fly high,’ said the little blue kite. The puff of
breeze replied, ‘We’re all afraid when we begin something new. But the
fear soon goes away. Come, you must fly high’. The little blue kite woke
up. It was morning. She floated down. Bobby was waiting under the tree.
He caught her string. Soon she was flying up and up. A little blue kite in a
big blue sky.
