To Beverly:
I am highly interested in the position as reporter / receptionist for the Ryerson University School
of Journalism. The position is well suited to my skills, abilities, and life circumstances as a soonto-be graduate of the journalism program.
Throughout my time studying and practising journalism, both at Ryerson and Durham College in
the years previous, I have developed strong research, reporting, writing and editing skills that will
enable me to compile and distribute weekly student / faculty and departmental newsletter, as well
as any other possible documents. My time as a journalist, especially during this past academic
year on the RRJ, has helped me to further develop clear and effective interpersonal and
communication skills through countless interviews, meetings, and project collaborations. As a
multimedia editor for the RRJ, I also had the opportunity to learn and practice how to create and
edit content such as videos, podcasts and slideshows, and then share them via social media
platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. The RRJ also gave me the experience and
necessary skills required to work on and organize multiple tasks and projects at once, and to do so
successfully as a member of a team.
As can been seen on my resume, I also spent several years working as a front desk volunteer at
Grandview Children’s Centre in Oshawa, where I completed many receptionist and office related
tasks including assisting and answering client inquires, making and answering phone calls, often
to schedule or remind clients of appointments, as wells photocopying, filing, mailing and creating
documents.
Through all of the above, I have also become comfortable with Microsoft Office, and am a quick
learner of programs and tasks that may be new to me.
I believe I am a good fit for this position, and I very much look forward to the opportunity to
discuss it further with you in the near future. Please feel free to contact me anytime at
jessgeboers@gmail.com or 647-876-2877.
Sincerely,
Jessica Geboers
