Position Description:
The Provincial System Support Program (PSSP) at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is currently
seeking an Aboriginal Knowledge Exchange Coordinator for Aboriginal Engagement and Outreach unit located in the
Sudbury Office. Knowledge Exchange (KE) is an essential function of the Aboriginal Engagement and Outreach (AEO)
Unit. This position will support AEO in building relationships and supporting the systems work of First Nations, Inuit
and Métis agencies, organizations and communities in Ontario. This position will be a direct resource to the Aboriginal
Workforce Development Initiative. The Knowledge Exchange Coordinator will also work with Evidence Exchange
Network (EENet), a provincial knowledge exchange network focused on building a more evidence-informed mental
health and addiction system, and exchanging the best available evidence on mental health and addictions. EENet
actively promotes the use of evidence in decision-making by providing an infrastructure to connect evidence to
mental health and addictions stakeholders across Ontario, developing targeted knowledge exchange products.
Playing an important connective role on a provincial level, the Aboriginal Knowledge Exchange Coordinator will be
part of the AEO unit. Reporting to the Project Manager, Mobile Training Teams Initiative, you will be responsible for a
variety of KE activities associated with AEO, EENet, and the PSSP. The Knowledge Exchange Coordinator will be
specifically charged with building and fostering linkages between the Aboriginal communities, agencies,
organizations, health centres, hospitals, university research centres, Local Health Integration Networks, other local
and regional planning bodies as well as other community mental health and addictions stakeholders for KE purposes.
Responsibilities will include the development of web-based spaces for AEO information sharing and initiatives;
coordination of online discussions and “communities of practice”; act as a local connector for knowledge producers
and knowledge users (e.g. planning tables, community mental health and wellness programs, hospital, human
services and justice committees, public health bodies, etc); building and fostering relationships with Aboriginal
researchers within Universities and Academic Health Science Centres; promoting engagement in knowledge
generation and access to existing knowledge in the field through connection to a broader network; enhancement of
community capacity to engage in research and KE activities and use evidence for decision-making; profile different
forms of evidence through knowledge products, KE events, etc., and the promotion through AEO, EENet and partner
networks. This position will develop KE products and organize KE activities for AEO. The candidate will support a
healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory
requirements. This position is located in the Sudbury office and will involve travel within Ontario.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in a relevant field with a minimum of three (3) years of related
experience. This position requires the incumbent to be an Aboriginal person (First Nations, Inuit or Métis) with a
demonstrated ability to collaborate on initiatives with Aboriginal service providers, organizations, and First Nation
communities. Experience includes: management of complex projects; facilitation of groups; adult education and
training; development of work plans, budgets and communication plans; as well as literature search, quality
appraisal, applicability assessment and interpretation, and development of literature/ rapid reviews. Understanding of
KE conceptual models, frameworks and strategies; and experience with a range of KE methods (e.g. communities of
practice, newsletters, workshops, online collaborative spaces, online repositories), with demonstrated ability to
research, analyze and develop knowledge exchange options and strategies would be considered assets. Experience
working within research and/or government environments is also considered an asset.
The Knowledge Exchange Coordinator will have demonstrated skills in project management, time management,
interpersonal communication, and problem solving. Strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to
manage diverse task load are required. The Knowledge Exchange Coordinator must be proficient in web-based tools
and MS Office software, including spreadsheet and presentation applications, and comfortable with web and social
media technologies to foster engagement. Candidates must be able to work independently and possess the ability for
self-directed learning, but must also be able to collaborate well with team members. Excellent networking,
leadership, relationship building, interpersonal and listening skills are required to work effectively with a broad range
of stakeholders and facilitating the development of partnerships. Demonstrated commitment to principles of equity,
inclusivity, respect and cultural competence is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or the ability to speak an
Aboriginal language is considered an asset.
