Learning Workshops
June 9 – July 23: Reading Workshop (Tuesdays & Thursdays, 9:00 AM– 11:30 AM)
Rising 4th through 6th Graders will experience an instructor-led reading workshop led by Mrs. Cindy Scott that will
guide them through completing a minimum of 3 books and engaging with other readers to grow reading skills and
enjoy reading. (For Grove students, this will count as your summer reading requirement.)
Cost: $120
Class Size: Maximum of 18 students
June 9 – July 23: Hands-On Science Workshop (Tuesdays, 1:00PM – 3:00PM)
Rising 4th through 6th Graders will experience an instructor-led reading hands-on science workshop led by Mrs.
Cindy Scott that will guide them through a Biblical world-view of Earth, Space, and Physical Science. (For Grove
students, you will receive 3 free jeans day passes.)
Cost: $75
Class Size: Maximum of 18 students
*Students who take both the Reading and Science workshops will pay a discounted rate of $185.00 and they can
bring their own lunch and have free play in the Play Space from 11:30 – 1:00PM
June 9 – July 21: Reading Literacy Workshop/Reading Elective – Hybrid (Tuesdays, 11:00 – 1:00PM
and online reading blog)
Rising 7th through 12th Graders will experience an instructor-led reading thematic-based course that focuses on
reading development, literary analysis, and writing as a tool for learning. This course will be led by Mrs. Christi
Bacon. This course uses a blended learning/hybrid approach that is part face-to-face seminars and part
independent online learning. This approach allows students to learn how to effectively engage in online learning
models and use technology as an additional tool for learning. (For Grove students who complete this course, they
will receive an elective course credit.)
Cost: $180

Seminar Dates:
June 9th- 11:00AM -12:00PM (orientation)
June 23rd- 11:00AM -1:00PM
July 7th- 11:00AM -1:00PM
July 21st- 11:00AM -1:00PM
June 8 – July 21: Algebra I (Monday – Thursday, 9:00AM – 1:00PM)
Students will engage in the full scope and sequence of the Algebra I course in this summer intensive session led by
Mr. Randall Reiss. In order to maximize student-teacher interaction and engagement, this course will be supported
by our summer math intern, Riane, a rising junior at Christopher Newport University majoring in Accounting with a
double minor in International Culture and French. (For Grove students who complete this course, they will receive
Algebra 1 course credit along with a course grade for their transcript. For Grove students who are taking this course
for remediation, should the student receive a higher grade in this summer intensive session, the transcript will be
changed to reflect the higher grade assessment.)
Cost: $400 (for credit) $200 (audit only)

To Register for Summer Learning Workshops:
In Person – Come to the receptionist’s office and complete the registration form and provide payment in the form
of a check payable to Grove Christian School. (Monday – Thursday, 9-3PM only)
Over the phone – Call Grove Christian School at 804-741-2860 to register over the phone with your child’s name,
age, and requested course by June 5. Full registration form can be completed on the first day of class. Payment is
due at the first class. Checks are made payable to Grove Christian School.
These courses are offered on a first-come, first-served basis to all interested students.
