Must have extensive QuickBooks knowledge and experience with activity based costing, cost centers, and inventory systems. Strongly prefer an individual with lean manufacturing practices and ERP experience. Summary of Position: The Controller is responsible for all areas relating to the financial management and reporting for the company. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements while adhering to GAAP. The Controller will work closely with the Office Manager/Bookkeeper, and is responsible for ensuring that work is completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a full range of accounting activities including, but not limited to: overseeing and auditing general ledger, A/P, A/R, payroll, and inventory, managing human resource activities and a system of cost accounting, as well as financial reporting, and offering assistance to the CFO in preparing budgets, forecasts, models, and other activities as needed. The Controller will report to the CFO and will have ongoing contact with the CEO, department heads, and other employees, which requires strong interpersonal communication skill, both written and verbal. Duties & Responsibilities: Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure. Ensure accurate and timely monthly, and year end close and related financial reports. Assist with all external reporting, including audits and other special reports. Assist the CFO in the daily banking requirements, including all electronic activities. Safeguard assets and assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits, controls and checks across all departments Provide training to new and existing staff as needed Monitor and evaluate the performance of accounting and other financial staff. Monitor, analyze, develop, and implement new & more efficient procedures to enhance the workflow from all departments, Develop methods to optimize efficient use of resources and enhance reporting accuracy. Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions. Respond to inquiries from the CFO and firm wide managers. Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting. Provide financial analysis tools to evaluate company ventures or special projects, programs, capital expenditures, products costing, etc. when necessary Work closely with the CFO in the development and economic evaluation of various fringe benefit programs for staff. Assist CFO with financial forecasting, budgets, & projections. Evaluate, and make recommendations to CFO for new service providers such as payroll services, human resource management, banking & credit card services, and software to enhance efficiency and accurate production of financial statements. Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures. Take hands-on lead position in developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive job cost system. Prepare financial information so that outside accountants can complete tax returns. Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards. JOB REQUIREMENTS BS in Accounting , and CPA highly preferred Experience in manufacturing and cost accounting is essential including a thorough understanding of inventory product flow and costing. Macintosh proficiency is essential and strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite, especially Excel. Thorough understanding of QuickBooks & QuickBooks modules for manufacturing, as well as other G/L packages and manufacturing accounting software. Prefer candidates with knowledge of ERP systems, and ability to evaluate company needs in order to recommend such software. Basic knowledge of corporate taxation in order to effectively communicate and work with outside CPA firm. Exceptional work ethic.
