Angle- generated by rotating one of two
rays that share a fixed endpoint called a
vertex.
 Initial side- the fixed side of the angle.
 Terminal side- the rotating side of the
angle.
 Standard Position- an angle with it’s
vertex at the origin and it’s initial side
along the positive x-axis

Degree- the unit used to measure angles
 Minutes- the 60 equal parts of the
degree subdivision
 Seconds- the 60 equal parts of the
Minutes subdivision

Las Vegas, Nevada, is located at about
36.175° north latitude. Change to 36.175°
to degrees, minutes, and seconds.
36.175°= 36° + (0.175  60)
= 36° + 10.5’
= 61° + 10 + (0.5  60)
= 61° + 10 + 30
36.175° can be written as 60° 10 30.
Las Vegas is also located at 115° 8 11 west
longitude. Write 115 ° 8 11 as a decimal
rounded to the nearest thousandth.
115 ° 8 11”= 115°
+ 8 1/60
+ 111 1/3600
about 115.136°
115 ° 8 11 can be written as 115.136°.
Give the angle measure represented by
each rotation.
3.75 rotations clockwise
3.75
(-360) = -1350
The angle measure of 3.75 clockwise
rotations is -1350°
4.2 rotations counterclockwise
4.2
360 = 1512
The angle measure of 4.2
counterclockwise rotations is 1512°.
