MESSAGE FROM THE BRANCH NEWSLETTER EDITOR: Greetings to all the Free State branch members. winter is finally here! There is nothing exciting in winter as reading a lovely book . We recently celebrated world book day on 23 April and hope to continue to inspire and be inspired by them. Many have probably heard someone saying: “we need to talk” . The book by Jonathan Jansen, We Need to Talk, will warm you throughout this winter season and most importantly, as the saying goes: information is power , it will liberate your mind. Happy reading. The deadline for the next newsletter is 30 June and the third one will be released on 15 July 2011. Together we stand, divided we fall. LIASA FS Newsletter 2011 1 FS PACLIG Diversity Management Workshop by Rina Jansen Van Rensburg FS PACLIG hosted a Multiculturalism & Diversity Management in the Workplace workshop at Fichardtpark Library on the 3rd and 4th May 2011, presented by Ms Ujala Satgoor. Eighty four librarians and five Teachers from the Free State attend the workshop. The theme Diversity Management in the workplace was discussed in length between staff from various institutions, positions and cultures. The emphasis was to become more aware of our own attitudes, perceptions, and feelings about various aspects of diversity because it is a broad concept which includes people from different backgrounds. The workshop covered the identities and perspectives that people bring, such as profession, education, gender roles, parental status and geographic location. The keywords were workplace, home, employment, diversity, disability inclusion, ethnic, racial and multiculturalism. In a positive perspective of the workshop, the attendees were satisfied and requested another similar workshop in near future. Photo: L t R (Ms Rina Jansen van Rensburg. Oprah whose name has, for 25 years, been synonymously linked with her Oprah Show, finally took a bow as she now focuses on the O network. She let the curtain fell in style as she showered her fans with all sorts of gifts and surprises. The 300 fans who attended one of her farewell shows will forever remember her when she said: We are going to Australia! You, you and you….are going to Australia! Oprah’s love for books saw her establishing a book club that has a membership that transcends all continents. This past December she recommended Charles Dickens (see photo below) books as good for holiday reading. She confessed to a surprised audience that she never read any of the famous author’s collection. Another world renowned author whose book Freedom has just been added to her list of favourite books is Jonathan Franzen.
