Welcome
to PE!!!
Who are you?
Coach Proclivo
Graduated From Loyola
Marymount University
I love to play basketball,
go hiking, practice rock
climbing, and do other
fitness activities
How many days do we come
to PE each week?
 PE is everyday at the same time
 5th Graders – if you join band you
will miss PE 2-3 days per week to
attend band practice
What if it is raining outside?
 We will have PE inside the Multipurpose room. There we will play
inside games, dance, and do
fitness activities!
So what do we do in PE?
 Teacher Talk
 Meet with your team
 Exercises & Stretching
 Fitness Focus Time
 Skill Practice/Games
 Teacher Talk
 Dismissal to Class
What do you mean by
skill practice?
 We will teach you the skills
that go with each sports
unit, have you practice
them in class, and then
test you on the skills
 We will do one to two
weeks of skill practice
before starting the games
so that everyone is ready
to play the game!
What sports do we play?
Ultimate Soccer
Kickball
Basketball
Rugby
Zooball
Simple Softball
Over The Line
Ultimate Frisbee
Hand Ball
Team Ball
Dance
Are we going to run
today?
 Please don’t ask that!
 Why do we run?
 Will we be tested on
running?
 I heard we have to run
1,000 laps around the track
everyday!
 By the end of the year, 4th
graders have to run a half
mile and 5th graders have
to run a mile!
Do you grade us?
YES!!
Each trimester your grade will
come from a:
 Running Test
 Sport Skills Tests
 Strength/Flexibility Test
 Sports Unit Tests/Writing
assignments
 Daily Participation, Effort,
and Citizenship
The Three Point System
 Every student gets three
points per day before
class even starts
 You will lose points for
not following the rules,
not participating, poor
social skills with
classmates
 These daily points will be
added up and used for a
part of your final grade
Are there rules in PE?
Respect your classmates
Respect your teachers
Respect equipment and school property
Keep your hands, feet, & bodies to yourself
What if I don’t follow the rules?
 The consequences in place:
 Yellow Card – this is a warning that behavior needs to be fixed
 Red Card – follows if misbehavior or rudeness continues after the
yellow card warning
 Severe misbehavior can bring out a red card right away
 Yellow cards will cause a loss of one point while a red card will
cause the student to lose all points for the day
 Red cards lead to timeouts, loss of game time, phone calls home,
and visits with the principal
What if I’m sick or injured?
 Parent Notes can
excuse students for 13 days
 Doctor Notes are
needed for excuses
lasting more than 3
days
What if I have asthma?
 Asthma is a condition where
your lungs have difficulty getting
oxygen into them
 If you have asthma, your
parents should provide this info
to the school nurse
 If you have asthma and you are
having difficulty breathing, you
can show the asthma sign and
then walk for a short while until
you gain the energy to start
running again
 If you do not have asthma, you
cannot use the sign!
The Rule of 85
• If the temperature
is over 85 degrees,
then students will
not run in class.
• In cases of extreme
heat class will be
held inside
Can I get a drink of water?
 Bring a water bottle – that way you
can get a drink at anytime during
class
 But I can’t buy a new water bottle
everyday, what should I do?
 Gatorade is okay to have in the
water bottle, but no soda!
 Can I bring a peppermint mocha
caramel macchiato frappuccino iced
coffee drink?
Shoes & Hats
 Hats are allowed, but must be worn
correctly – facing forward to protect
face from sun
 If hats are worn incorrectly or
become a distraction they will be
taken away
 Shoes – do not wear flip-flops,
sandals, boots or high heels
 If you want to wear those shoes to
school, bring an extra pair of regular
shoes to change into before PE
