Dear Sir or Madam,
Cordial greetings from ENACTUS UUM,
First of all, we are a group of active and enthusiastic students from ENACTUS UUM. Kindly let
me deliver a brief explanation about our organization. ENACTUS is an international non-profit
entrepreneurial based organization at the university level, comprising of students, academic and
business leaders. This organization was initially known as SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise)
and has just recently re-branded into ENACTUS (Entrepreneurial Action Us). Here in ENACTUS
UUM, active and enthusiastic young leaders are doing projects that focus on community
development by adding entrepreneurship element into the transformation.
Furthermore, ENACTUS UUM is well aware of the Corporate Social Responsibility projects that
your company has been supporting and endorsed for several years and we are sure that our projects
share similar goals and visions that your company has. Therefore, in this delightful opportunity, we
would like to further explain our projects with you, in the hope that we will manage to build
partnership and collaboration with your company.
Currently , we are executing 4 projects namely 4Nature , Back2Bag , ZeroWater and Charcos .
Further information regarding two of our significant projects are explained below.
1.

4NATURE
Minimizing the usage of chemical fertilizers and pesticides among the farmers by giving them
information and instruction about methods to produce organic fertilizers and pesticides.

Improving the standard of living and quality of living among the farmers.
It can be found out that the ENACTUS Members were sharing the farmers the techniques of
producing organic fertilizers and pesticides at the certain region in Kedah in the pictures attached
below.
2.

Back2Bag
Emphasizing the importance of lessening unused plastic products in the community by
repurposing the disposed plastic bags into attractive and marketable products such as pencil
case and coin pouch and creating wider scope of job opportunities

Production and sales will be done by disabled people with the knowledge and skills imparted
by ENACTUS UUM, which therefore will address the issues of unemployment faced by
disabled people
It can be found out that the ENACTUS members were instructing the disabled to make the
marketable plastic bags by utilizing the unused plastics in the pictures attached below.
ENACTUS Malaysia National Cup
The National Competitions of ENACTUS in Malaysia are dramatic, energy filled events where
ENACTUS teams showcase the collective impact of their community outreach efforts. There will
be a National Cup for every university’s ENACTUS team in Malaysia to compete with each other
in every year by presenting their projects to the business leaders. The business leaders serve as
judges who evaluate and rank them on how successful they were at using business concepts to
improve the quality of life and standard of living for those in need. Upon winning the ENACTUS
Malaysia National Cup 2014, the team will then represent Malaysia to the prestigious
ENACTUS World Cup. Currently in 2014, ENACTUS UUM is the winner of the ENACTUS
Malaysia National Cup 2014 and therefore will represent Malaysia in ENACTUS World Cup
2014 in Beijing, China.
These are the projects and facts that ENACTUS UUM has been currently involved and
developing. It would be highly appreciated if we can have an opportunity to have a pitching
session with your company so that we can present and explain about the projects in a very wellorganized manner.
Thank you so much for the time you have given to read the information in this particular abstract.
Your reply would be highly appreciated. For further details and inquiries, please kindly contact us.

Members
A training program will be conducted for all the project members in order to ensure all of them
have the basic knowledge on how to produce IMO. Hence, if the target audience encountered
problem in the making process of IMO, the members would be able to help.
New Village
A workshop on how to make IMO will be carried out for the targeted participants in the new
village, Kampung Wang. Before the workshop, we will approach the farmers around Kampung
Wang and invite them to this workshop. The speaker of this workshop will be invited from
Agriculture Department of Kubang Pasu. This workshop comprises of theory on IMO and hands
on session to make IMO.
After the workshop, we will have an interview session to collect the information from the farmers
and persuade them to take part in the “IMO Program”.
IMO Program
IMO program is a program for all the farmers that engaged in this project. We will provide IMO
booklet and calendar to the farmers. The IMO booklet consists of the IMO making process and the
application method while the IMO calendar is to help them manage their production schedule. We
will mark down all the dates of process from IMO 1 to IMO 5 in order to help the farmers to avoid
miscalculation of the date.
In this program, we will teach the farmers the basic skills on data collecting by introducing the
new documentation system. The farmers need to jot down their income, expenses and the amount
of plantation produced in each cycle. This system enables the farmers to monitor theirprofit and
expenses.

plastic bags into attractive and marketable products like pencil case and coin pouch. The disabled people
will produce the products and sell it with the knowledge and skills imparted by ENATCUS UUM. Every year,
there are approximately 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags used worldwide. As a consumer, individual
uses averagely 100 plastic bags monthly and only a small percentage of these plastic bags are recycled due
to the higher cost of recycling than producing a new one.1Through this project, we target to tackle various
environment issues posed by the plastic bags while fostering entrepreneurs with these sustainable “green
business” concepts.
2.1 The Disabled
In northern region of Malaysia, there are approximately 75,000 registered disabled people with average
income of less than RM300 per month. Having to live in their incapability, these disabled are facing serious
social discrimination from the society. Their incapability also causes them to be able to engage in jobs and
earn for their living. Hence, the family members of these disabled would have to take up extra jobs to
support them.

UNIVERSITI UTARA MALAYSIA
1.0 Purpose
The purpose of this proposal is to win and seek financial support from UReka’s Berbudi Berganda:
Social Impact Initiation Challenge to execute Charcos project. This project is scheduled to start
from September 2014 to June 2015.
2.0 Background
Charcos is a new project initiated under ENACTUS UUM, which aspire to improve the standard of
living and quality of lives of farmers in northern region via entrepreneurship. This project aims to
reduce the air pollution that caused by coconut shells burning which happen rapidly these days. As
what we know, Malaysia has a lot of coconut plantation. After consuming the coconut, the farmers
would not know how to settle the coconut shell; therefore most of the farmers would burn the
coconut shells instead of reusing it. With this coco charcoal, we can kill two birds with one stone.
While burning the coconut shells, we can turn it into charcoal briquette2 and in the meantime
reduce the agricultural waste in the environment.
Charcos started off initially in phase I by helping a group of targeted farmer at Changloon in order
to preserve and recover the nature of the environment. Through this project, we target to tackle
various environment issues while fostering “agro-preneurs” with these sustainable “green
business” concepts.
2.1 The Coconut shells
Coconuts shells, which comprise 12 per cent of the weight of the coconut, could be utilized more
efficiently. Carbonization of one ton of coconut shells produces of the order 300 kg of charcoal,
which can be converted into 120 kg of activated carbon. The combustion of waste gases can be
utilized to enhance the efficiency of the processes and to generate power. The market for activated
carbon in filter materials, absorbents and similar uses could be increased substantially if controlled
processing and product certification were available. An alternative domestic application for
charcoal could be as fuel for cooking or for drying agricultural products.
2
briquette (or briquet) is a block of flammable matter used as fuel to start and maintain a fire. Common types of
briquettes are charcoal briquettes and biomass briquettes.
3.0 Goal
To develop farmers to become environmental friendly entrepreneurs by exploiting and converting
the agricultural waste to valuable product in order to reduce the air pollution from coconut shells
burning.
4.0 Objectives
4.1
To enhance the standard of living of the farmers by providing essential knowledge and
skills.
4.2
To ignite the entrepreneurial spirit among the target audiences.
4.3

UNIVERSITI UTARA MALAYSIA
1.0 Purpose
The purpose of this proposal is to win and seek financial support from UReka’s Berbudi Berganda:
Social Impact Initiation Challenge to execute Zero Water project. This project is scheduled to start
from September 2014 to June 2015.
2.0 Background
Zero Water is a project initiated under ENACTUS UUM, which aspire to improve the standard of
living of the target audiences via entrepreneurship. The Zero Water project is the result under the
observations of the water crisis that is happening in Malaysia nowadays. As what we know,
excessive water is being wasted and polluted through the car wash activities. Most of the
community didn’t realize that this activity will actually harm and endanger our environment with
the usage of chemical substances during the car wash process. In order to solve this problem, we
come out with a solution on how we can reduce the usage of water by creating a new product to
replace the excessive water usage. Instead of using the water and chemical substances to clean our
car, we changed this conventional method by introducing the liquid spray. This type of liquid spray
can be used to clean our car without using any pipe water. More than that, we only used minimum
amount of water to produce the liquid spray and thus we can save a lot of water.
3.0 Goal
To reduce the excessive water usage and prevent the water pollution caused by the usage of
chemical substances during the car wash activity and it consequences to the community.
4.0 Objectives
4.1
To raise the awareness about the water waste and water pollution that occurs around
Malaysia.
4.2
To increase the target audience’s income and enhance their standard of living.
4.3
To provide entrepreneurial skills and soft skills to the target audiences.
4.4
To reduce the excessive water usage and prevent the environment from water
pollution.
5.0 Target Groups
Our target audiences will be selected among the people in need who stay around Kedah area and
also the person who runs the car wash shop. We will transfer the knowledge on how to produce the
liquid spray to the car wash shop owner to reduce their cost by reducing the water usage. In the
same time, we will also target the people who lived under poverty around Kedah area to assist
them to earn extra money by producing and selling the liquid spray.

How would you solve the social problem you have chosen? Tell us the steps you would take and what you
would require. Make it practical, reasonable and can be implemented. *
The social problems that I have chosen are the current environmental issues regarding air pollution and
water shortage, accompanied by the issue of disabled people.
The first and foremost factor is the environmental issue in accordance with air pollution. As a result, a
leading approach in contributing to air pollution is the burning of coconut shells. Our project members have
taken several steps to turn the coconut shells into coconut bio-charcoal in order to overcome beneficially
about this issue. While processing all the steps that have taken, it would require coconut shells, which are
plentiful in Malaysia. This would lead for us to gather the farmers and instruct them how to turn the
coconut shells into charcoal.
The second issue on environment need to be tackled is the water shortage. In this particular issue, the steps
taken are mentioned precisely in this paragraph. To commence with, our members will create a product,
which is liquid spray to wash cars without having to rinse it again with substantial amount of water. It is
extremely usual to use lots of chemical and water while washing even a single car. As such, by
implementing these steps, we do believe that we can lessen the use of water as well as water pollution and
hence minimizing water shortage. Obviously, we needed certain commodities in order to do the steps are
providing materials to make the liquid spray, which are Soda Bicarbonate, Car wax, and Liquid castile soap.
The final issue I would like to confront is the issue of the disabled people. These people are often
discriminated in the society and are often find it hard to get a job to sustain their living. In order to increase
their standards of living as well as income, the steps we will do is we will teach them how to crochet using
plastic bags. By learning how to crochet, they will get the ability to make various things like laptop bags,
small pouch, etc. All the things they made can be sold hence they will get their own earnings and have an
entrepreneurial skill to rise their living standard. The required materials are plastic bags, as the main
material to crochet, and crochet hooks.
Where would you carry out your project? Which groups of people would benefit from it? *
For all of the projects that I have mentioned, which are mainly emphasizing in the State of Kedah.
However, we are aiming to expand our projects to other Malaysia’s northern region like Perlis and Penang.
In the CharCos project, the farmers are one of the groups of people who would benefit from our project.
Because the farmers will gain knowledge to be able to produce coconut bio-charcoal by themselves
and market it. This is an effective way to assist the farmers to reduce their cost of operation and in
the same time earned the extra income by reusing the coconut shells.
In the ZeroWater Project, the benefited groups are the owner of car wash shop as the product we
are going to introduce to them will cost less than the usual car washing chemicals and therefore
will increase their income.
In the Back2Bag Project, the disabled people who are the main focus of this project will be the o
group that will gain most benefit. The skills and ability that they possessed such as crocheting or
entrepreneurial skill to sell their handmade product will give them the opportunity to sustain their
own living without having to depend on others.
Why do you think it is important to address the social issue you have chosen? What do you hope to
achieve? If you had the funds how else can you expand your project? *
Environmental issues have been one of the world’s biggest focuses right now. The world has been
struggling with more and more pollution and air pollution as well as water pollution and shortage are among
the most problematical of them. We believe that to reduce air pollution and water pollution means we will
contribute to make the world’s struggle to decrease, hence, increase the quality of life of every living being
on earth.
On the other hand, the issue of disabled people and their difficulties to find jobs in the society has been a
well known issue since a very long time ago and the fact that this issue still exists in the society proved that
the methods that have been used to overcome this issue has not yet found its success. Furthermore, the
importance of this issue is not to be seen in a narrow perspective; in fact it should be seen that to address
this issue, we are making a world whereby the sustainability and living standards of all people should be
equal, regardless of their physical or mental disability.
In general, in all the issues we are trying to solve, we are looking and hoping to achieve for a better, more
livable world.
In a more detailed aspect, in the CharCos project, we hope to achieve a condition whereby all the farmers
that we have given the knowledge and skills to turn coconut shells to bio-charcoal can manage to use the
skills that they have to increase their living condition. Our project aims to not only reducing the air
pollution, but to also give the farmers an entrepreneurial skill to sell the products they have made. We hope
to achieve a state where we can contribute in reduction of air pollution as well as the increase of the
farmers’ standard living.
In the ZeroWater project, we hope to achieve a condition in which we can reduce the chemicals used by the
car wash shop owners and increase their living standards as well as income, because the liquid spray we are
going to introduce to them will be much cheaper and healthier than the chemicals they have been using.
In the Back2Bag Project, our main target to achieve is to raise the living standard of the disabled people. To
create a society whereby people with disability stand a chance to have the same, or even better life
standards when compared to the non-disabled people. We hope to achieve a condition whereby the disabled
people can have the independency to sustain their own life without having to depend on others.
If we manage to get the funds for all the projects we have mentioned, what we will do is we will expand our
project by expanding our targeted audiences for each and every project. Right now we are focusing on the
Kedah region, but if we manage to get the funds, the other regions such as Perlis and Penang will also be
reached. With funds in our projects, we will try and approach other organizations who are sharing the same
concerns as us in the aspect of environmental issues and entrepreneurial skills to build partnership with us.
These partnerships will make it easier for us to find new people who can work with us together and expand
the project to other different places by involving people and students from the local residence.
By the funds we have we will be able to increase the project’s span, hence increase people’s awareness
towards the issue we are dealing with as well as affecting more and more people to increase their standard
of living and awareness.
