Pathfinder Assignment
IRLS 524
Food and Nutrition for University of Arizona Undergraduates
Pathfinder
Introduction:
As nutritional sciences are wide-ranging and include different specialties and various fields of
study, a pathfinder is important in order to help students find resources in areas such as food
chemistry, nutrition assessment, nutrition counseling, dietary management, and others. This is
also a continually evolving and advancing field so being able to find current sources is vital. This
pathfinder was designed to help food and nutrition students find reliable resources within key
areas of study. Particularly, it is a starting point for undergraduate students in The Department of
Nutritional Sciences to find online and library resources to help with coursework. This pathfinder
will also be helpful for students as they explore different areas of study and research
specializations within the field. The government websites listed are all freely available on the
web. The other resources listed are available through University of Arizona University Libraries.
Students may also want to check out the Arizona Health Sciences Library.
*Links to library items will take you to the item’s WorldCat bibliographic record, through which
you can view available editions and formats, and click to check for electronic resource access
through the library or find a copy in the library. Please be aware that you may be asked to
provide your student netid and password when accessing some pages.

publication search can be done to narrow results to one or many publications, and keywords can
be used to search for publications, such as Nutrition Research Newsletter, Nutrition and Dietary
Supplements, and Nutrition and Metabolism. The main search bar can be used to search all
publications for keywords as well.
Academic Search Complete
* Find popular and scholarly resources for a variety of health-related and other topics to meet
needs for both core and general education class assignments. Click in the top left to find subject
terms for searching. Try Nutrition, Nutrition—Requirements, Diet therapy, Child nutrition, or
Nutrition policy. Results can be refined to full text or scholarly journals only by clicking these
search options.
OvidSP
* Allows access to multiple health sciences resources, including bibliographic databases and
academic journals. Notable resources include OvidMEDLINE ®, CAB abstracts, Health and
Psychosocial Instruments, and Journals@Ovid Full Text. Click on the information icon next to
each resource for database field guides. When ready, begin by selecting resources to search (as
many as desired), then use one of many search features to find information.
PubMed/MedlinePlus
* Includes biomedical literature from Medline, life science journals, and online books. Use the
MeSH database for controlled vocabulary or try Topic-Specific Queries listed under PubMed
Lauren Borga
Tools. From Topic-Specific Queries click on MedlinePlus Health Topics to read about diseases,
illnesses, health topics and wellness issues. Health and Wellness links with subheadings include
Fitness and Exercise, Food and Nutrition, Personal Health Issues, Wellness and Lifestyle, and
more. MedlinePlus also contains anatomy videos and interactive health tutorials for prevention
and wellness.
Web of Science
