(1) Macroeconomics, 8th Edition, by N. Gregory Mankiw.
Available at Barnes & Nobles. You may purchase a used book,
but I would prefer that you purchase the 8th edition.

Learning Outcomes:








After successfully completing this class, I expect you to be able to:
Identify the six key variables in macroeconomics and why they are important;
National Income Accounting, Inflation, Unemployment and Economic Growth
Analyze the determinants of aggregate demand and supply;
How the six key macro variables behave over the course of business cycles;
How firms make investment decisions;
Describe the ways in which monetary and fiscal policies affect the choices
facing households, firms, and the overall economy;
Access various sources of macroeconomic data and use them to examine the
issues above.

Grading Policy: A (90% and above), B (80-89%), and so on.
Exams:
Exam 1 : All Multiple Choice
Exam 2 : All Problem Solving
Final Exam : All Multiple choice questions.
Exams Excuses:
If you miss Exam 1 or/and Exam 2 and you presented an official and verified excuse,
you will be allowed to makeup the exam that you missed as early as possible.
However you must present the excuse notice within 3 days of your absence. Some
examples of ‘valid’ absences are: medical conditions, religious holy days, or
representing TTU at external events (conferences, ‘away’ games, etc.). See the TTU
Catalog for more details about the last two cases. No private excuses will be
accepted in any means. No excuses accepted for the Final Exam. If you miss the
final exam then you must accept Zero grade for it.
Quizzes:
There will be 8 pop-up quizzes. These can be given at any time on any day of the
classes. So you need to be prepared all the time. All quizzes are open book. Missed
Quizzes can be made up if you have a valid Texas Tech excuse as mentioned above.
These allowed makeup quizzes are given only during my TA’s office hours. No
Other excuses are accepted in any means.
Notes:
1.
Students are expected to assist in maintaining a classroom environment which is
conducive to learning. In order to assure that all students have an opportunity to gain
from time spent in class, unless otherwise approved by the instructor, students are
prohibited from using cellular phones, eating or drinking in class, making offensive
remarks, using laptops for nonrelated class activities, reading newspapers, sleeping
or engaging in any other form of distraction. Inappropriate behavior in the classroom
shall result in, minimally, a request to leave class.

Attendance is highly encouraged.
3. A simple calculator should be used for the exams. I-phone or any other sort of
methods will not be accepted as a calculator.
4.
American with Disability ACT : Any student who, because of a disability, may
require special arrangements in order to meet the course requirements should contact
the instructor as soon as possible to make any necessary arrangements. Students
should present appropriate verification from Student Disability Services during the
instructor’s office hours. Please note: instructors are not allowed to provide
classroom accommodations to a student until appropriate verification from Student
Disability Services has been provided. For additional information, please contact
Student Disability Services in West Hall or call 806-742-2405.
5. Students are expected to have their ID’s with them in class. The instructor reserves
the right to ask a student to show his/her ID, especially during exams.

Any instance of cheating and/or plagiarism will result in an (F) for the course. The
instructor reserves the right to pursue the matter further.
7. You will be given a grade of a zero for any test you miss until you replace it with the
makeup exam’s grade, granted that you have demonstrated valid justification for
missing a scheduled exam.
8.
Student Absence for Observation of Religious Holy Days. A student who is absent
from classes for the observation of a religious holy day shall be allowed to take an
examination or complete an assignment scheduled for that day within a reasonable
time after the absence if, not later than the fifteenth day after the first day of the
semester, the student had notified the instructor of each scheduled class that the
student would be absent for a religious holy day.
