3) A girl usually grows to be 125% of the height she was at age 9. If a girl is 132 cm tall
at age 9, what will her adult height likely be?
Achievement Indicator:
Solve a given problem involving combined percents.
1) Monica wants to buy an MP3 player. In a store flyer she sees a player that regularly
seels for $119.95. It is advertised at 20% off, but, because she lives in British Columbia,
she has to pay 5% GST and 7% PST. She has saved $115 from babysitting. Does she
have enough money to buy the MP3 player? Show your work and explain your thinking.
2) At the checkout, you hear a customer ask about a discount. The customer says, “I
would like you to take the 25% off the regular price before you calculate the 10% sales
tax.” The clerk says, “It doesn’t make any difference. If I calculate the sales tax, then take
off 25%, you will still pay the same.” Is the clerk correct? Show your work and explain
your thinking by providing an example.

following year and then increased by 25% the next year. How many students are now
enrolled at the school?
2) A population of a group increased by 15% one year and then increased by 22% the
next year. Explain why there was not a 37% increase in population over the two years.
Provide an example to support your thinking.
