Digital divide is the inequal access to Information, Communications and Technology (ICT), it poses a problem because society cannot progress as a united whole. This problem exist between developed and developing countries, and is caused by economic and educational differences. The purpose of this essay is to evaluate the effectiveness of existing efforts such as monetary foreign aid and subsidized computer training in an attempt to bridge the digital divide between nations and age groups. In addition, new solutions like supplementing infrastructures and equipment, and new solutions like diversifying training that can enhance the current implementations will be mentioned.

A digital divide that exists between nations is largely due from economic differences. In general, the economies of developing countries are mostly poor performing. For example, the

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita of the United States are USD 47,882 much higher than that of Nigeria, which has a third world country with only GDP per capita of USD 1,509

(United Nations, 2011). As a result of poverty, developing countries lack inadequate capital resources to construct ICT infrastructures such as broadband lines and acquire computers

(Brooks, Donovan and Rumble, 2005). The disparity between developing and developed nations is an issue because the former is economically disadvantaged.

A feasible solutions can possibly be for foreign countries to build ICT infrastructures in developing countries. This must have been be done by having developed countries to share their expertise. Guide the locals on how to build ICT infrastructures such as server centres and broadband lines. Not only does it stimulates the economy, it is also a stepping stone for subsequent ICT development. other developed countries and private sectors can donate computers, servers and cables to these impoverished countries as a form of aid. The building of ICT infrastructures and providence of equipment will have been to ensure that adequate help was given by develop the ICT in these less developed countries.

The problem with digital divide is that if allowed to continue to grow wider.
