After-listening Discussion Points:
What caused the colonists to become so angry?
Did the British East India Company create the Tea Tax in hopes to anger the colonists, or
“pocket the money”? What was the reasoning behind their instatement of taxes?
Although we have taxes on “goods” today, why do you think citizens are not irate over this
decision?

Going Further:
1.
After The Boston Tea Party occurred, the town’s gazette headline read, “High Tea in
Boston Harbor”. Break students into groups and have them create an, “After reading
this…” reaction from several different points of view that they would post on Facebook.
After constructing their responses, have a board created for sharing and replying to one
another while staying in their assigned role.
Suggestions include: Sam Adams, a colonist NOT involved in the dumping of the tea, a
colonist that was dressed up as an Indian, one captain from the three ships, and someone
from Parliament.
2.
Have a reenactment of the event. Assist students in finding props, scripts, and other roles
needed to make this happen!
3.
Allow students to conduct interviews with eye witnesses from that night. Students will
be responsible for not only constructing well developed questions, but providing (closely)
accurate statements.
