The largest Programme of its kind in the world, SSA is an integrated, comprehensive scheme in partnership with G.O. I, State Governments. The Training activity should be supported by illustrative Manual on best practices for RCC construction written in local language. 12 Testing of Materials Recommendations / Implemented solutions Details To ensure the Quality of building material and obtaining material from approved sources for quality construction. Source of the material are approved if not already. Obtain material from approved sources only. Testing of building material from Government approved Laboratories The head Master teachers and VEC are trained in carrying out field tests of the building materials. 13 How to execute quality Civil work Recommendations / Implemented solutions Details General problems of quality in RCC framed structure work is due to lack of understanding of construction processes and lack of experience of constructing RCC structure. Concerned supervisors and VEC members are trained and given input on construction of RCC structure. Following specific issues help in eliminating poor quality concrete Cutting bending, binding and laying of bars Importance of lap length in Tension and Compression steel Size and slope of form work. Attending social problems Recommendations / Implemented solutions Details At some places the VEC is either inactive or non cooperative Quality Materials either not purchased or Proper procedure is not followed Local level politics hampers the progress & quality The consultant with cooperation of Z.P. officials discussed the issue with VEC and motivated the VEC. The importance of using Quality materials and its long term benefits are impressed upon VEC. The consultant worked as mediator in case of local politics and avoid the rift for the cause and purpose of constructing School 15 A presence of consultant at all vital stages of construction helped the VEC ,S.S.A. Engineers in identification from purchase of good quality material for construction till completion of work . VEC is also supported by a detailed construction manual in Marathi language that include the drawings ,the technical details ,the estimate ,the Testing producers and broad tips for construction 16 VEC training Programmes and the construction manual help in solving basic site issues for : Reducing Wastage of materials at site Ensuring safety in the area surrounding the construction. As far as possible ,avoiding damage to the existing flora and fauna.
