Goals of the Grant Goal Two Prepare health care workers for licensure at the next level through the career mobility curriculum at the community colleges. Goals of the Grant Goal Three Provide health care agency workers with additional training to allow better utilization of employees; and develop skills, knowledge and attitudes that will encourage progression in health care professions. What the Southeast Healthcare Consortium will provide Instructors Training Tutoring Advising/Mentoring Testing - COMPASS or ASSET, math placement, LSI a learning “styles”, and CSI a learning "ability“ Computer Equipment for Training What the Southeast Healthcare Consortium will need from Partners Classroom Space Access To Some Non-portable Equipment Necessary For Laboratory Instruction Qualified Agency RN’s for Preceptor Roles Support of Agency Personnel who Participate in the Program Completed Informational Meetings Met with Agency Partners and Initial Students. Toured the Facilities. Evaluated the Training Areas. Completed Testing ~ Compass, Asset, LSI Took Computers and Printers to each location. Offered the Compass & LSI on Computer. Offered the Asset & LSI by Hand. Tested 196 Students at 5 Partner Agencies. Worked Closely with the OCC Study Skills Center. Completed Advising Each student was contacted by mail with an introductory letter explaining the grant. The introductory letter included contact information for the Director of Nursing and Allied Health, the Grant Coordinator, and the Program Advisor. Completed Advising (Continued) Each student needing remedial courses was contacted by mail. Completed REM Courses for those tested with need Each identified student received instructions to contact the Program Advisor to sign up for one of 8 available REM classes offered at the agencies. Reading and Writing were offered during the summer semester. Those needing Special Needs testing were tested by the OCC Study Skills Director and Assistant. Completed GEN 1104 ~ Strategies for Success Each student received instructions to contact the Program Advisor to sign up for one of 8 available GEN 1104 classes offered at the agencies. The 8 GEN 1104 courses were offered starting June 13 and ending July 19. Completed Planning, organizing, and reporting for the first semester. Checking all students records for grades, transcripts, licensure. Identifying those who are have completed all Nursing support courses. Completed Entering the appropriate information into a Software program written for the Nursing Department to assist in Ranking prospective students. Establishing one day a week to be at each Partner Agency to assist students in tutoring, check-offs, & advisement. Completed Identifying the levels of nursing to be offered. Ascertaining the budget possibilities of additional student assistance. Created a new course ~ Spanish for Health Providers Completed & Ongoing Finding qualified Instructors for the Nursing Courses. Setting up training for Preceptors. Finding qualified Instructors for the Support Courses for those not ready for the Nursing Courses. Planning and re-planning rotation schedules for clinicals. Dealing with the unexpected. Ongoing Accepting new prospective incumbent workers into the program. Testing new prospective incumbent workers. First Year So Far Continuing 15 RN’s (Started with 20) Continuing 7 PN’s (Started with 6) Provided classes for 150 students Planning Planning the schedule of classes for the summer semester. Planning the schedule of classes for the fall semester. Ranking incumbent workers for placement in the nursing program for 2006-07 school year.
