It is an educational, self-help organisation providing study groups, recreational and social activities at minimal cost. The intention is that there is sharing of learning and skills and the experience of older people is valued. Farnham U3A was formed in 1990 and now has over 1,100 members. This prospectus gives details of the groups which will be meeting throughout the academic year 2015/2016. Your membership subscription entitles you to join as many groups as you wish, subject to there being space available, at no extra cost. There are three exceptions to this: 1. An extra charge may be made for a professional tutor, external speaker or materials. This is noted in the prospectus. 2. A charge may be made to cover the costs of printing or photocopying and other minor disbursements. This will not generally exceed £1 per term. 3. At Project and Monthly Meetings, when refreshments are provided, a charge may be made. Once you have paid your subscription for the year, you may join the groups of your choice by contacting the group secretaries before our Registration Day. All the groups will be represented at Registration Day, on Monday, 7 September, from 10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m., at The Farnham Maltings. This is an opportunity to learn more about groups that you may be interested in, to join groups in person, and to find out more about activities connected with our special project for the year. Changes to the Programme, and other information about the U3A (Clubs, Events, Outings, Special Meetings) are posted on our Website at www.farnhamu3a.org.uk and on the U3A Notice Board in the corridor leading to The Maltings Café. You must show your new Membership Card when registering for the groups you wish to join. Please renew your membership before 31 July so that your new membership card can be sent to you in time for Registration. You may renew your membership at The Maltings on Registration morning - but this may involve queuing. 5 ACADEMIC YEAR 2015/2016 KEY DATES Autumn Term 7 September to 12 December Spring Term - 5 January to 2 April Summer Term 7 April to 12 June 2015 Registration Day Monday, 7 September Register to join groups from 10.00 until 11.30 hrs at The Maltings 2015 Annual General Meeting Monday, 14 September at 14.00 hrs at The Maltings 2015 New Members’ Reception Wednesday, 21 October 10 – 12.00 at The Maltings BY INVITATION ONLY 2015/16 Group Leaders’ & Secretaries’ Meetings TBA, The Maltings JOINING FARNHAM U3A Contact Mrs Margaret Ham Tel 01252 715457 Email: membership@farnham-u3a.org.uk 6 PROJECT 2015/2016 – ABOUT TIME Programme 2015 Project meetings - Friday Mornings 10:00 – 13:00 Sept 18, 10:00: ‘Doing Time’ – A personal view by Elizabeth Anson, exmagistrate 11:30: ‘Comic Timing’ – BBC ‘Dead Ringers’ actor and scriptwriter Duncan Wisbey demonstrates the problems of working to a deadline—especially on Election Day!
