By: Madison Hanes • A word that shows action! • Every sentence must have a verb. • Unlike Many parts of speech, verbs can change their forms! • Example: I ran to go get the ball. • Mental: • I thought I got the correct answer! • Physical: • I jumped in joy! • The letters “ed” are usually added at the end of verbs to show they are past tense! Example: I walked along the track. • Past Tense verbs show what already happened. And you don’t always have to end a past tense verb in “ed” • Example: I was at the baseball field. • Present tense verbs show what is currently happening! • Example: I am writing a paper. Did you notice that the verb end in “ing” This shows what is currently happening, rather than what has already happened or what will happen. • Future Tense Verbs show something that will happen, what we think is going to happen. • Example: I will go take the garbage out. • Also dates can show future tense verbs. Next, tomorrow, next week, in a month, etc. • "Punctuation." Free English Grammar Lessons and Tests. N.p., n.d. Web. 01 Nov. 2013. • "Level 330 Grammar Topics." ELC Study Zone:.
