During World War II , he served in the US Navy and he was later rewarded with a medal. He was elected to the US Congress in 1946 , and the US Senate in 1952 . He married Jacqueline Bouvier on september 12,1953. The couple had for children . Kennedy beat his opponent Richard Nixon in the 1960 presidential election . Kennedy was assassinated on November 22,1963 in Dallas,Texas. Lee Harvey Oswald was the prime suspect in the murder, he was kill two days later. PRESIDENCY Kennedy was a member of the United States Democratic Party . He was the youngest president ever elected. Kennedy was the youngest president ever elected. He was also the first Roman Catholic President He was the first president to win a Pulitzer Prize. He created a plan called the NEW FRONTIER. He faced the Cold War and the Cuban Missile Crisis. He fought inequality of the sexes He produced the Civil Rights Act • • • • • -CUBAN CRISIS He approved the CIA's plan to invade Cuba. The invasion was a failure , the Cuban Missile Crisis began. Cuba ordered a lot of nuclear missiles from the Soviet Union . Kennedy Kennedy ordered US Navy ships to surround Cuba. He ended the crisis peacefully by making an agreement with the Soviet Union. They agreed that the Soviet Union would stop selling nuclear weapons to Cuba. In return, the U.S. promise to never invade Cuba again. Soviet Union vs United States of America NEW FRONTIER The term New Frontier was used by Kennedy in his acceptance speech in the 1960 United States presidential election to the Democratic National Convention at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum as the Democratic slogan to inspire America to support him. "We stand today on the edge of a New Frontier -— the frontier of the 1960s, the frontier of unknown opportunities and perils, the frontier of unfilled hopes and unfilled threats. ... EQUAL RIGHTS FOR WOMEN THE PRESIDENTIAL COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN the Presidential Commission on the Status of Women was an commission established by Kennedy to investigate questions regarding women's equality in education, in the workplace, and under the law. The commission, chaired by Eleanor Roosevelt , was composed of 26 members. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. ASSASINATION Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas. He was being driven through the city in an open top car, along with the Governor of Texas. As the car drove into Dealey Plaza, shots were fired. Kennedy was hit twice and died. Lee Harvey Oswald was the prime suspect in the murder,Oswald was killed two days later by Jack Ruby. his body was laid to rest in Arlington, Virginia.
