By Whitney Traynham Trigonometry is a mathematical study of triangles History shows that people as early as Ancient Egyptians used Trigonometry, but the study was built upon and molded over hundreds of years. Though no one person is responsible for the study of Trigonometry, Hipparchus of Nicea, is known as the father of trigonometry. He was a Greek man living during 190 & 120 B.C. He is known as the Father of Trigonometry be cause “He developed trigonometry and constructed trigonometric tables, and he solved several problems of spherical trigonometry. "Hipparchus." Wikipedia. For example is you wanted to know how high above sea level you were, you could use a trigonometric formula. Similarly trigonometry can be used to find the height of buildings or mountains. A unit circle has a radius of one. The unit circle is used in trigonometry with this formula “The unit circle equation is x² + y² = 1” Stapel, Elizabeth. "The Unit Circle." Purplemath. Available from http://www.purplemath.com/modules/unitcirc.htm Circles and triangles have the same tangent which relates them.
