Andy Warhol, The Soup Guy

As a Young Man







Andy was born in 1928, he died in 1987.
He was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.
Andy was very sickly as a child.
Entered the college Carnegie Institute of Technology.
After college Andy and his mother move to NYC where Andy
was a catalog/advertising artist.
He had cheap and old apartments.
Believed that an odd personal image led to success.
Andy’s Adulthood







Andy changed his last name from Warhola to Warhol.
He wore blond wigs, glasses, leather jackets, and high heeled
boots.
During his first art showing he wore a tribal mask and had the
same song blaring over and over.
Andy never married in his lifetime.
This was because he was homosexual.
Andy hid being gay until he was rich and famous.
Few actually saw him without his wigs on.
Personal, and odd habits









Played songs repetitively.
Did 100 push-ups and 50 pull-ups every morning.
It’s not amazing that Andy didn’t get fat.
Sometimes he partied until 4:00 AM.
He loved gossip so he recorded all of the conversations he had.
Had mountains of boxes in every room of his house.
Sometimes Andy lived on nothing but pastries, other times just
vegetable puree, and raw garlic.
Andy even occasionally bought a whole cake to eat by himself.
I guess that’s better than eating paint.
Andy’s Peak







Andy Warhol's most successful years were during the 60’s, and 70’s.
Andy made paintings of pop icons during this time including Marilyn
Monroe.
Andy also made his most famous work, the Campbell's soup cans, which he
painted because that is what he and his mom ate when they were poor.
Disaster also struck during the sixties, when a member of SCUM (society for
cutting up men) came into his studio and shot him.
This didn’t kill him but caused his death 19 years later.
Even this did not stop Andy from painting.
And soon after Andy Warhol had his own magazine and painted more.

In the late seventies Andy Warhol was a well known artist who
had his art in many museums around the world.
During the beginning of the ’80s Andy published POPism, a
series books about his paintings, exhibitions, and the like.
Andy also created two TV shows, “Andy Warhol’s TV” in ’82
and “Andy Warhol’s 15 minutes” in ’86.”
Andy made a series of paintings called “Ads”.
Andy also collaborated with younger artists like Jean-Michel
Basquiat, Francesco Clemente and Keith Haring
After His Death





Andy died on February 22, 1987 soon after a routine gall
bladder surgery.
Andy Warhol's funeral was held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in
New York City.
Nearly 2000 friends and relatives showed up for this funeral.
In 1989 The New York Museum of Modern Art had a large
showcase of his work.
Finally in 1994 The Andy Warhol museum was built in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Movement: Pop Art






Andy Warhol was the leader of an art movement considered
pop art.
Pop art is popular art ( celebrities, models, ect.) which is
basically modern art.
The reason pop art is symbolic is that it shows things in a
unique way (much like Picasso).
It also uses contrasting colors ( like Van Gogh).
Many people my age see Modern and Pop Art and say that it’s
not art because it isn't the hardest thing to do, but it’s original
which makes it art.
That’s why Andy Warhol is famous has the original.
My Art That Resembles Andy’s Art

My art which is a simple cup of tea symbolizes life. The edge is the never ending
possibilities for us, the tea represents life itself, and the handle which is thin and fragile
represents how easily we can screw everything up. The triangle represents a strength
and religion and the square represents the even and stable eco systems. The black and
blue in this case much like black and white) represent positive and negative energy,
while orange and white represent neutrality and clashing bodies. That’s just how I see it
though.
Ending On A Good Note





This final slide is basically some more fun facts about a cool guy.
Andy Warhol is one of the most quoted artists of all time.
Some of his quotes are, “They say time changes things, but actually you
have to change them yourself.”, “In the future everyone will be famous for
15 minutes.”, “I broke something today, and I realized that I should break
something every week to remind me of how fragile life is.”, and of course,
“Two people kissing always looks like fish.”
Another interesting thing is that Andy Warhol wrote a book called “The
Philosophy Of Andy Warhol: A to B and Back Again”
Andy Warhol’s museum is the largest single artist museum in the world.
