Why do authors use poetry?
What are they trying to achieve by writing in poetic form?
Which types of poems and authors seem to work the best for me?
How to analyze a poem – question 3
Remember, there is not a single correct way to analyze poem. Probably the best way
to start with analyzing a poem is by sharing how you feel after you read it, but that’s
not a guarantee for a good analysis.
For our purposes we are going to do a pair share or a three share of each poem and
interview each other about the poem you selected.

4.
Start by explaining why you chose this poem and how you felt after reading
it.
Then move on to interview the others in your sharing group about how they
felt about your poem.
Record their responses.
Next, describe what images the poem brings to mind and what poetic
devices – alliteration, rhyme, metrical feet, allusions, and so forth the author
used.
Staple the entire packet to back of the cover sheet.
