century.
• Doubling rate getting shorter.
• It took about 18,000 for the population to reach 1 billion
• 1650-1850 200 years 500 - 1 billion
• 1850-1920 70 years 2 billion
• 1920 – 1970 50 years 4 billion
• 1970 – 2020 50 years 9 billion

• Will peak at between 10 – 20 billion in 2070
• Will decline to 9 by 2100.
• North America may be the only places with increasing population in
2100 with an increase from 314 to 454 million.
• Why might this be?

• Immigration has been increasing in North America.
• First generation immigrants have more children.

• By 2100 it may start to decline.

• It will decline to 1.25 by 2100.
• It will have more well educated people than Europe and North
