REGISTRATION MATERIALS REQUIRED

Proof of Residence- ALWAYS must have the following two items printed on the official
document or bill by the vendor, etc.:
1. Parent/Guardian’s name -- as the responsible party for the bill, etcetera.
2. Street address of where the parent/guardian and student resides.
Acceptable forms are as follows (they must be current)

An Electric bill.
•
A Land-Line Phone bill only – NO Wireless service phone bills
•
A Water bill.
•
A trash collection bill.
•
A “Dish Network”, DirecTV, or a Cable bill.
•
A Propane delivery bill..
When utilities and rent are provided by an employer, the employer must provide a letter stating the
parent/guardian and student live at the residence address shown on the enrollment papers AND the Employer
must provide proof that their residence is within the school district in one of the formats listed above.

teacher recommendation (keep in mind that colleges prefer
students continue to challenge themselves and take math their senior year)
ENGLISH PLACEMENT TEST

Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI)–
This exam will be administered at each feeder school



Student Lexile scores, CST scores and 8th grade
English grades (all trimesters) will be used for
English placement
All students with an SRI score below 1040 AND CST
ELA below 350 will be placed into Comp English; they
will also be required to take READ 180 as an elective
Retest Policy – CST ELA below 350 AND SRI score
between 1070 to 1079 may re-take the SRI to improve
score
MATH PLACEMENT



Students must earn a “C” or better in all
trimesters of the pre-requisite course(s) and a
75% (or above) on end of course exam(s) to place
into next level (Geometry or Alg. 2 or above)
Grades from articulated schools will be placed on
official high school transcripts for Algebra and
Geometry
For non-articulated schools testing will be administered
at the high school at the end of May.
PRE-REQUISITES - LETTER GRADES

In order to place into Geometry:
8th grade Algebra grades must be:
”C” or better all trimesters*
* Only for school districts articulated with SYVUHSD. It is recommended for students with two or three Cs in
Algebra 1 in 8th grade, to repeat Algebra 1 at SYHS. Students need a strong foundation in Algebra 1 in order to be
successful in Geometry and Algebra 2, etc.


NEW COURSE 2013-2014

Frosh Core: Military History Option
Pre-requisite : None

Frosh Core, which is a required class for all incoming freshmen,
consists of two semesters, the first covering Social Studies content
and the second covering Health related issues. In the Military
History option, the Social Studies component will focus on the
nature and change of American military organization and
strategy. Students will primarily study the key battles and
military campaigns of The American Revolution, The American
Civil War and World War II with some supplementary studies of
the US Mexican War, World War I, The Korean War, The Vietnam
War and recent wars in the Middle East. The course will be
lecture-centered with student participation in role play activities.
Historical documentaries will support the study of individual
battles, campaigns and fighting styles.
