Illinois Community Health Workers Presented by Salim Al-Nurridin and Leticia Boughton As organizations and providers look for ways to improve outcomes while controlling costs a newly defined team member may be part of the solution that serves as the missing link between medical and social supports. As a founder of the organization, he has worked for the past 22 years, to advocate for quality healthcare services. Under his leadership, the Consortium began with three employees, and to date, there are more than 130 employees. He is an activist for humanity and brings “passion” to everything he touches. His service includes participation with the following organizations and causes: Roseland Community Hospital, Carver Area High School LSC, Chicago Asthma Consortium, Greater Roseland Area Planning Commission, Roseland Medical District, Health and Medicare Policy Research Group, Illinois Public Health Association, Cook County Illinois State Committee on Abuse & Neglect, National Association of Healthy Start, National Rainbow Coalition/Operation P.U.S.H., Southside Help Center, Nehemiah Recovery Initiative, Southland Ministerial Health Network, Roseland Cease Fire, Illinois Juvenile Justice Initiative, Neighborhood Recovery Initiative (NRI), Sickle Cell Association, (CPS) Safe Passage, Illinois County Care, Secretary General for Mosque of Umar, Inc., Governor Quinn’s Muslim American Advisory Council; just to name a few. He also served as the Chair for the Facility Health Board of the Chicago Department of Public Health/Roseland Health Center. Salim is an alumni of Roosevelt University, Lutheran School of Theology and OliveHarvey College. Salim is married to the love of his life, Khadijah. They have been blessed with six children and a host of grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
