Year 9 Homework Semester 2 Term3: Three Tasks Task 1 – Due Thur/Fri Wk 3 – Reaction Types Back yard swimming pools require regular chemical adjustments. Research each of the statements below: Identify the range of pool chemicals used, and their effect on the water Discuss how rain water and sunlight can affect the pool chemistry What is the correct pH for a swimming pool, and why is it important Describe the possible chemical hazards of maintaining a pool. You may present your research findings in one of the following formats: an A3 sized poster, a brochure or a digital presentation of your choice. The following sites will help you get started on your research: http://www.ausgrid.com.au/~/media/Files/Ways%20to%20save/Energy%20efficiency%20broch ures/Ausgrid_Pool_Spa_201213.pdf http://www.flasolar.com/pdf/water_chemistry_for_swimming_pools.htm http://www.alphapoolservice.net/blog/entry/top-10-things-that-negatively-affect-pool-waterchemistry http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/sydney-man-severely-injured-mixing-chlorine-for-pool-2014011130nl3.html Task 2 – Due Thur/Fri Wk 6 - Ecosystems Research 5 threatened species include both plants and animals. For each species find: • • • • some interesting facts a picture show on a map where it can be found state the main reason for its threatened status. Present your finding as an A3 sized poster or a digital story (max length 3 minutes). Examples and help for creating a digital story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HYsivZTQ3Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1f-_FXgJZM Task 3 – Due Monday 31st August Wk 8 – Research Project 20% of Semester 2 Sustainability at home – energy use, waste production and attitudes. A detailed assignment guide sheet will be handed out in class. Term 4: Two Tasks Task 4 – Due Thur/Fri – Wk3 In preparation for your yearly exam, create an A4 sized mind map on each of topics below: • • • • Heat, Light and Sound Reaction Types Ecosystems Electrical Energy Mind maps should include the information found in your Unit outline. Task 5 – Due Thur/Fri - Wk 6 – Electrical Energy Electromagnetism explains why auroras only happen near the north and south poles. Research auroras and find: • • • • Images that show the different colours that are displayed in auroras The difference between aurora borealis and aurora australis The particles that cause auroras, where these particles come from and why they light up in the atmosphere A diagram or animation that explains how electromagnetism causes the particles to funnel towards the poles. Present your research as an A3 sized poster or create a digital documentary max length 5 minutes. Include the following: What causes the disease? What are the symptoms? How is it spread? Where in the world is it prevalent? Is there a cure? Add any information that is useful and informative. Present findings as an information brochure.
