Mission Statement & Guiding
Principles
Interscholastic Athletics & Learning…Excellence with Integrity
Mission
Our belief is participation in athletics has a great educational value for our students. Junior High & High school
athletics promote character traits of high value and give students another opportunity to experience success and take
this confidence to other areas of their life. Athletics install character traits in students such as the drive to take one’s
talents to the highest level of performance, embracing the discipline needed to reach high standards, and learning to
work with others as a team in pursuit of a common goal. Athletics also plays an important role in creating a sense of
community & belonging at Clark.

These principles shall guide the administration and implementation of Clark Montessori’s Interscholastic Athletics
program:

To conduct athletics programs ethically within the spirit and best interest of the School, CPS, Miami Valley
Conference, and OHSAA rules and regulations.
To establish and maintain an environment in which athletic activities are conducted as an integral part of the
student-athlete’s academic experience.
To establish and maintain an environment that values cultural diversity and gender equity among studentathletics and interscholastic department & coaching staffs.
To protect the health of and provide a safe environment for student-athletes.
To establish and maintain and environment that fosters a positive relationship between student-athletes and
coaches.

#1 Academic Excellence
GOAL: Clark Student Athletes will excel in the classroom. They will meet or exceed
all of CPS & OHSAA expectations for academic performance.
STRATEGIES:
1. Educate & communicate to all student-athletes of these standards.
2. Coaches should be aware and involved with weekly grade/behavior checks &
reports
3. Better utilize study tables & align practices accordingly to fit academic needs
(Help nights, etc.)
4. Provide 4-5 tutors during the school year to assist with study tables and provide
individual attention to students “at risk”
5. Establish team academic goals (Team GPA, Team All Academic, etc.)
MEASURE:
Have at least 50% of all student-athletes all-academic (3.0 or higher). No students
claimed ineligible during any season. Minimum Team GPA 2.5+.

#2 Athletic Excellence
GOAL: Have our teams compete at the highest level in all sports. Be a major force in the MVC and Greater Cincinnati
area. Get our athletic programs to a point that kids inside Clark’s door & out want to be a part of something great.
Clark “Academy”…create a feeling of a private school in a public setting.
STRATEGIES:
1. Continue to work building relationships with our feeder schools (additional camps, having Montessori Nights, etc.)
2. Evaluating coaches & coaching staff to ensure we have pieces in place that provide kids with a top notch learning
environment. Set goals for each head coach and team before each season.
3. Develop Coaches and provide continual education. Have all coaches active & involved in their respective South
West Ohio Coaches Association (if applicable).
4. Compete in everything we do (academics, practice, strength & conditioning, games, etc.)
5. Schedule non-conferences opponents that compliment our conference schedule. Have teams battle tested for the
post season.
6. Work to enhance our off season programs. Hold kids accountable for being at “voluntary” event.
7. Utilize our Strength Coach. Renovate our strength room to maximize it’s efficiency.
8. Provide top level uniforms and equipment to make kids feel like they are a part of something great.
9. Have a full-time academic coach/monitor to scan all teams and provide necessary help to kids at risk to earn &
maintain eligibility.
10. Keep our Junior High kids at Clark! Recruit our own.
– Yearly letter to all Clark Junior High Kids
11. Have a plan to combat Open Enrollment. Look at potential transfers that could contribute. Have influence &
contribution during this enrollment process.
MEASURE:
Be in the MVC’s Top Division (Scarlet) for those sports with two divisions. Have each sport finish in the top 3 or higher
overall in the league, or top 2 in their Division. Win at least 3 MVC League Championships & send 14+ student-athletes
to college for athletics per year. Pave the path to win a State Championship.

#3 Student & Athlete Experience
GOAL: To offer our students & student-athletes the best Junior High & High School experience in the
State of Ohio.

Provide the best and safest equipment & uniforms financial we can provide
– Looking into a uniform deal to keep look consistent and maximize dollars (Nike, etc.)
Provide the best strength & conditioning programs in the area
– Continue to utilize strength coach/upgrade equipment & training resources
– Custom workouts for each sport
– Add record boards/incentivize off season programs
Provide the best sports medicine to our student-athletes
– Top notch training room & trainer who is student focused & values relationship building
Have a “wow” factor at each event. Be innovative & create a “can’t miss” atmosphere that people want to come to be a part
of something great.
– Player Introductions, spotlights, video scorer's table, music/sound effects, contests/games, etc. Make things FUN!
Start a school spirit group that communicates & promotes athletic events to the school community
Developing Leaders….Continue to develop Student Athlete Leadership Team (S.A.L.T.)
– Provide more leadership opportunities for students to take ownership
Cultivate relationships with Alumni & Youth (Elementary Schools)
– More Alumni events & involvement. Make them feel a part of the school & culture even after they graduate
– Work with Montessori Elementary Schools & other community schools to get them involved. Have an elementary
night each season. Allow teams to play during halftime of games & be a part of the event. Provide an interactive
experience with Clark & Clark students.
MEASURE:
Have at least 50% of the students at Clark involved in athletics. Rank #1 in fan fun & entertainment.
See a dramatic increase in attendance by Clark students, alumni, & future students.

#4 Facilities
GOAL: Develop a master facilities plan for Athletics to address short-term and long-term needs

• Bigger Scorer’s Table (fit 6 people comfortably); Marketing/sponsorship potential
• Additional Seating (put two sets of aluminum bleachers on the mezzanine level; possible student section)
• Add additional sponsorship & marketing opportunities to raise funds (digital board, floor decals, etc.)
• Sell Naming rights to the gym
• Rent out gym space to organizations/teams to maximize revenue potential and kickback to Clark programs
Strength & Conditioning Room
• Complete renovation of weight room
• New rubber floor, new paint, all brand new equipment/dumbells/plyometrics, etc.
• Make a better floor plan to allow for more open space for core/agility work
• Sell naming rights to the fitness center
Turf
• Add additional nets around the perimeter of the field to increase safety & allow more feasibility for usage for softball &
baseball
• Add concrete slab and permanent shed for storage

#5 Communications
GOAL: Improve communication with all Clark Montessori constituencies: studentathletes, coaches, students, faculty & staff, alumni, elementary schools, donors,
business community, & media.
STRATEGIES:
1. 24 Hour policy for all coaches & staff in the Athletic Department
2. Utilize & be innovative in technology: All Call, School wide-email, One Call Now,
Social Media (Twitter/Vine)
3. Have summer coaches gathering to communicate/refocus our department
vision, develop relationships, continued education
4. Follow appropriate chain of command
5. Start & grow student spirit group that promotes athletic events/experience to

MEASURE:
Clark has only been a school and had sports for a short period of time. We need to build tradition. Part of
building tradition, is being successful on the athletic venue. The other part is creating an environment/culture
that breeds success and builds momentum off that history of success. We will experience academic &
athletic success as outlined in #1 & #2, then celebrate and make visible & known our
accomplishments/acheivements.

Relationship/Development
GOAL: Develop a comprehensive community relations plan to ensure student-athletes,
coaches, and staff actively participate in community service programs. Create good will, trust,
& support from the Hyde Park Community, local elementary schools, and fellow municipalities.

GOAL: Continue Clark Athletics commitment to equality amongst sports &
compliance with Title IX.

MEASURE:
Clark Athletics is committed to providing the best athletic experience for ALL! One of our top priorities is to
accept & appreciate our diversity in all areas. This culture should be reflected in our coaching staffs and the
decisions they make. Gender, racial, & social-economically equality shall be reflected in all areas of the
athletic department. Facilities, uniforms, & equipment will be comparable and appropriate to the respective
sport.
