Aims of the Summer Learning Activity The main aim of the summer learning activity is: Bringing Psychology to life! through the exploration of memory in a range of different situations Resources available / suggested Case studies (HM, Clive Wearing, KF) www.youtube.co.uk INTERNET www.youramazingbrain.org REAL LIFE Newspaper articles Observations of people around you Psychologies magazine BOOKS, MAGAZINES AND FILMS Suggestions for strategies for researching or using resources Organise your research and put it into categories of your choice – this could be factors that affect memory, case studies, psychological research or a category/theme that you have identified Use the ‘Test Yourself’ materials on www.youramazingbrain.org to investigate your own memory Look at a variety of case studies of people with memory difficulties. Compare them to people with average memories. What are the causes and consequences of their memory impairment? Suggested outcomes for presenting what you have learned – choose one or come up with your own method to show what you have learnt…. A review of the media you have interacted with – eg a book or film review A folder including a range of notes and mind maps A poster on memory strategies for students A plan for a research study you would like to conduct A magazine article that you have written to explain everyday memory You should bring your completed work to your first Psychology lesson – be aware this may be the first day of term.
